Coupled Union - Warrior Bride: Somewhere Out There (WAFF) [Episode 182802]

by Kender

Dreams were a funny thing, as Ranma had long known. They could show someone their darkest fears, their greatest worries, or their most precious hopes, all within the span of a single night. He could remember the times when stress had caused him to have his sleep haunted by the monsters that he'd carried with him from a certain pit years earlier. But his dreams weren't caught upon any pains on this night.

No, what he dreams he could that filled his sleeping mind were of nights spent in open spaces in the forests that he'd trained in. Places where the moon filtered between branches, illuminating the slumbering forest in a mystical glow that was only shown to a select few. It would be a place where the places away from the bright lights of civilization didn't show, and where monsters and terrors didn't lurk, as it was filled with the magic of life, just waiting to be touched.

This was also where he could see Shampoo running about, giggling like a small girl with delight, the stars twinkling like jewels above her. That sort of place was a part of her, without the cloaks that 'modern life' would put upon a girl. Rather, she was someone who loved nature, and would never look more lovely than when the night wind would stir around her, causing her hair to flow like water with it.

Under that lovely sky, they'd spent moments relaxing after days of training, discovering what they were like as individuals and as a couple. He'd shared dreams with her, and she'd let herself be vulnerable with him. For the two of them, there had never been anyone who understood them as much as they did for each other. And to tell the truth, it just hit him in his very soul that, no matter what kept them apart, they were still bound together.

So, it was not mere pain that had had him tensing in his sleep, but was pure joy that he contained as his dreams reminded him of the deep bond that he held with the girl that he loved, even if she wasn't at his side right then.

Somewhere out there
Beneath the pale blue night
Someone's thinking of me
And loving me tonight

Somewhere out there
Someone's saying a prayer
That we'll find one another
In that big somewhere out there

And even though I know how very far apart we are
It helps to think we might be wishing
On the same bright star

And when the night wind starts to sing a lonesome lullaby
It helps to think we're sleeping
Underneath the same big sky

It probably wasn't the most comfortable thing to make her bed on the deck of the ship, but Shampoo simply felt that she had to do it. No matter if she was going to be stuck with the risk of being washed over the side, or falling off, she found the most comfortable and safest spot that she could. No one really tried to stop her, and she knew that they were being truly kind to her when they let her do as she felt.

Yet, there was something calling her to curl up under the stars. Wrapping her blanket about her shoulders, she sat against the side of the wheelhouse and imagined that the piece of cloth was her husband's arm. That was easier than it might have sounded, as she could remember many a time when they'd slip from their campsites in the night to go sit against a rock or tree, and simply share a quiet moment together.

In those quiet times, she found a shelter for herself in more ways than one. Her heart and soul were just as protected as her body was, as she always felt safe with her beloved Ranma. He might have been free to touch her shapely body in the ways that other boys might have wanted, but he'd always wanted more to feel her against him in an embrace of love. There was certainly a physical attraction, but when the two of them sat together, they spent more time speaking of dreams, hopes, and the things that they took joy in.

For some, the idea of finding happiness in repeating a tale of getting a new punch just right might have seemed a bit strange, but they shared the sense of accomplishment that such work would bring to them. Moments when he mentioned how he loved the views of mountains from a simple campsite, and when she'd told him of the joy of seeing rivers glint down below the cliffs that she'd traveled on were the sorts of things that they needed to share. To them, there had been no better thing to do than to talk with someone who not only understood them, but who truly could love what they did.

As she looked up at the moon which hung bright over the sea, she couldn't help but recognize that it also shone its gentle light over her beloved. In a land of noise, light, and crowds, that simple and pure glow was likely covering the boy that she loved, just as it was doing for her. Knowing that he could look up and see the same stars that she did was enough to reassure her, and she could almost sense that, in the stillness around the ship, her soul could go off and connect with his. The sky would watch over the both of them, and would hold the dreams of the both of them as she traveled to go find a way to be with him again.

For, one day, she would be reunited with Ranma, and they would then be able to share the possibilities and wishes that the night would have for them.

Tugging her blanket closer around her shoulders, she let a gentle smile curve her soft lips, and felt a certainty that, soon enough, she'd be with the only boy who'd she ever wanted to share everything with, while:
