Michiru, making a few interrogative noises from inside a picnic blanket, was not likely to be of immediate assistance.
"Now," said Nodoka Saotome, lightly brushing off a stone bench before sitting down on it. "If you would be so kind as to tell me why you are attempting to assault my son and myself?"
"Uhm, that's a very good question," said Haruka. "Err. It's like this -"
"Yes?" asked Nodoka.
"You might add the question as to why she was trying to kidnap me," said Makoto, frowning slightly.
"That's a good question as well," said Nodoka agreeably. "Well?"
"We were just so happy to be your maids," tried Haruka, "that we wanted to have a little surprise party for Ranma later."
"Ah, I see," said Nodoka.
"It was just that things didn't quite seem to work out," continued Haruka.
"What was that about 'evil plans'?" asked Ranma.
Haruka began sweating heavily as she tried to come up with an explanation. She noticed that the picnic-blanket had opened up and Michiru was now looking at Setsuna. Haruka's eyes went to Setsuna as well. Nodoka noticed and began looking at Setsuna.
Setsuna silently cursed that she was so much taller than Rei and most of the maids surrounding her, as moving out of sight had just become impossible.
"It seemed like a good idea at the time?" tried Haruka.
"Your majesty," said Setsuna. "Might I have a word with you? I think I can explain everything."
"That would be nice," admitted Nodoka. The ground rose and shifted color so that a second marble bench appeared near her own. "Please go on."
Seeing no choice (other than a brief thought about running for the edge of this fluxland) - Setsuna took the proferred seat and decided that she should try:
