That was why she blew out a breath and twirled herself to a sitting position. Laying on her bed and brooding on her thoughts wasn't really helping. For her, it was normal to make a decision on something, and then dwell on that, rather than wavering on the choice itself. And as she let her legs hang loosely off the edge of her bed, she had to admit that stopping to wonder about what she was doing wasn't helping.
What she needed was an answer, and as she thought about it without mental commentary, she found herself making a direct and firm decision.
Her choice didn't particularly surprise her though, as she idly wondered if she had always subconsciously known that she would refuse Genma's offer. Once she did recognize what she wanted to do, she saw that she didn't feel all that bad about it. After all, she felt that her decision was the only one that she could come to.
Though, it didn't come from the fact that she didn't particularly like the man, or trust him, for that matter. He was a proven liar, and tended to run rampant over other people's wishes, but she simply could not see that as the final influence on what she had picked to do. Other people would have wondered about why she would need another reason, but there was something that pushed her away from wanting to be his student.
The man was basically a complete and utter idiot. Imagining Genma swinging boulders on ropes at her as he tried to figure out the instructions on the scroll didn't exactly fill her with confidence. Perhaps if he had actually taught someone else the technique, she would have been more favorable towards such lessons, but the fact was that he didn't have any experience in teaching the move. Given that he hadn't said anything about him actually seeing someone instructing students on the technique, she didn't think that he had anything other than a vague idea of what he would need to do.
Considering the fact that she didn't want to have an unreasoning fear of boulders smacking into her head, she thought that it'd be best to nip this one in the bud before it got away from her.
Smiling to herself, she slid to a standing position and stretched, feeling rather pleased with herself. A bit of disappointment at having to refuse her sister's father-in-law's offer was there, but she figured that there would be other opportunities to learn special techniques, now that Ranma and his father were there. Placing herself into a position of great physical discomfort without the likelyhood that she'd actually learn something didn't quite sit well with her. So, she decided to tell Mister Saotome as calmly and politely as possible, since he had been trying to be nice about things, even if it was likely that he was talking out of his ass again.
She just hoped that he would take it in the manner that she hoped that he would.
Being in this sort of position wasn't something that Soun was particularly familiar with, but he knew that he had to deal with what he had done. With what he had done, he'd caused a rift in his family, and that was something that he never wanted to happen. That meant that he had to act to repair the damage before it was too late, and he didn't have a chance to fix it.
Not that he was feeling particularly brave or confident as he slipped into the room where his eldest child was. "Kasumi? Can I speak with you?"
"Yes, Father?" Kasumi answered turning to face him. "What is it?"
He winced as he recognized that, despite the fact that manners wouldn't allow her to be rude to him, her voice had lost the affection and respect that she'd always used when saying 'father', and turned it into a mere title. "I was hoping that we could... talk."
"Oh?"
"I.... wanted to explain myself. To apologize for my actions."
"I see," she murmured, with her eyes showing a flash of emotion that caught his attention, even if he couldn't quite tell what it meant.
It gave him hope that he'd not totally ruined their relationship beyond repair, while:
