Mer-man sat atop the flattened stone at the top of the bluffs looking bored. Skeletor'd sent him to fetch the Mother Opal from the deepest depths of the Sea of Rakash just to awaken Bacul, the meanest sea creature this side of Eternia. Well, he'd found the opal and landed on Bakul's atoll but he didn't know how to summon the creature.
"Figures Skeletor'd leave me here like this...ooh...if he weren't so powerful I'd-I'd-"
"You'd what, Mer-man?" Skeletor's voice barked out from behind him.
Mer-Man jumped up in surprise and embarassment. "Nothing, master, nothing! I'd wonder if he'd...uh..."
"Let me guess, krill-for-brains, you would wonder if He-Man had caused any trouble for me, hmm?"
"Exactly, Skeletor!" Hopefully he bought it...
Mer-Man turned around expecting the business end of a Havok Staff pointed at him, instead finding one of Tri-Klops doomseekers projecting an image of his skeletal master in mid-air.
"Somehow I doubt that, fish-face, but I don't have time for that right now. Something unexpected has come up, you'll have to free Bakul by yourself."
"Oooh, Mer-Man likes to be left alone."
"I like leaving you alone, clod, but only one of your tribe can control the sea god." The hologram pointed to the opal. "Drop that into the lagoon and feed it a sacrifice, doesn't matter what it is as long as it bleeds."
Mer-Man looked around. "There's nothing here Skeletor, what should I sacrifice?"
The Overlord of Evil's brow furrowed. "I have pressing concerns here at Snake Mountain, USE YOUR IMAGINATION, FOOL!" The image faded and the doomseeker flew off.
Mer-Man stared dejectedly down at the lagoon beyond the cliff and kicked a few pebbles off. Skeletor was always ordering him around, it was never 'Mer-Man can you do this?' or 'Mer-Man would you do that?' it was always do this and do that! When Skeletor said 'jump', Mer-Man jumped...a sad life for the heir of the Ishthar Kingdom to live...
"I suppose some fish will do."
