Hover vehicles being one such sign, another being that 'Neehaun' was pretty much split between Rome and Beijing. Southern Neehaun was more Roman, Latin was the dominant language, and the architecture and art tended to look 'Western'. Northern Neehaun was more Chinese-influenced, with Mandarin dominating and the style of architecture and art going more towards that of the Chinese Empire.
Still, there was the Empire and that meant there were those who were enemies of the Empire. One of the passengers from the bus went off to find some quiet spot.
The technology level was about four hundred years beyond what might be expected. However, not all technology had followed the same path.
