A good deal of the traditions were actually based more on 'manners' and 'propriety' than anything else. After all, there were certain images that people wanted to show to the world, and a large number of individuals were quite focused on that point. As would be the case with the love slave kept to entertain a master's desires, there were certain expectations from slave retainers. One might sleep with his or her retainer, or be close friends with the slave in question, but for many of those who held fast to notions of 'propriety', one simply did not share quarters with someone of that class. Because of that, a lot of the usual practices, including those of room postings, resulted in certain fall backs.
That allowed Konoka to react to the room postings as she did. "Oh, wow! It'll be just like we're a married couple."
"And we'll be right here," Kaede murmured, nodding in approval at the closeness of the two rooms.
"Isn't it great? Not only will Secchan be close by, but Ranma and I can spend so much time together!"
"Seems like you like it, milady."
"I think that it's going to work out perfectly! Right, Secchan?"
"It... isn't quite what I meant," Setsuna murmured.
"But you're the one that suggested it."
"I only said that we should keep things as dignified and proper as possible...."
Had he not noticed the tightening at the corners of Setsuna's mouth, Ranma might have vocalized his agreement with her. As it was, he was fairly put out by the idea of having to share a room with Konoka. Not that he didn't like her, as she was really a friendly and nice person, but the fact was that she was a girl. Had she been his full use slave, it wouldn't have mattered, since the idea of him bunking with someone who might inadvertently give him a peek at her chest, or such, was enough to make him break out into a cold sweat.
As much as he cared about her, he was also very aware of that fact that the room assignments were a little too close to having what she said be reality than would be safe for his peace of mind.
Of course, he knew that it might also be a point of concern for her father and grandfather, given that the two men would naturally have to pay attention to what would happen to young and pretty heiress. But the truth was that the two of them were actually quite odd in their behavior regarding his relationship with her. Eishun simply wanted his daughter to be happy, and it seemed that she rather liked the pigtailed young man. On the other hand, it was also apparent that one of her grandfather's main hobbies was trying to set up marriage meetings for his lovely grandchild, and was entirely likely desiring some sort of union to result. Both men seemed to like the idea of the one who actually got her hand in marriage to be Ranma, for reasons that he wasn't too sure about.
What he did know was that Konoka was turning a bright smile onto him as she fairly dragged him into the room that she was going to share with him, and Setsuna's hand was tightening around the sheathe for her sword, while:
