It was a quiet Saturday evening in the Tendo Household.
Akane Tendo, the youngest of the three Tendo Sisters, was in her room, going through her school books, making sure she had everything she needed for the next school year.
Kasumi Tendo, the eldest of the sisters, was in the kitchen, preparing the evening meal. Her father Soun was sitting in the living room, having a cup of tea.
"Nice is a nice tea, Kasumi," he commented. "You have to make me another cup."
Kasumi smiled. "Why, thank you, father!
And Nabiki Tendo, the middle sister, was preparing for school as well... in her own way.
"Let's see..." she muttered. "Now where did I put those pictures of Akane? Kuno made it clear that he wants to have them by tomorrow, he even paid in advance..."
She then nodded. "Ah, I remember. They must still be in that drawer." She walked up to her chest of drawers and pulled.
She sighed. "Man, is that old thing stuck again? Just my luck..."
She contemplated asking Akane for help, as she had clearly the strongest arms in the family... but she decided against it. Why should she go to her little sister when she could solve the problem in a way that didn't involve brute strength?
She walked to her desk and picked up the small, longish thing that was lying there. She then walked over to the drawer, aimed the item she had just taken and spoke clearly:
"Alohomora!"
The drawer opened easily.
Nabiki smirked as she put her wand into the hip pocket of her shorts. "I just love magic!"
"You know, if the ministry finds out you used magic at home again, you'll be in big trouble, Nabiki!"
Nabiki turned around to face her sister, Akane, who was standing in her door, stroking the head of her tiny pet owl.
Nabiki frowned. "I reckon those old geezers will think twice before sending me an admonition again," she smirked. "That last Howler I sent them caused quite the stir in the ministry, if I remember correctly."
Seeing her sister frown, Nabiki sighed. "Hey, relax! They won't bother me again, I already told you. The facts I found out about them will keep their mouths shut for a while... and by the way, doesn't the head of the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts office still owe me 5.000.000 yen?"
Akane shook her head. "You're hopeless, Nabiki..."
"Says the girl who has at least two dozens of male admirers," Nabiki smirked. "Haven't you still settled the thing with Kuno?"
"No, but if he starts reciting bad poetry in front of me again, I'll use that Furnunculus Curse Yuka told me about on him..." Akane grumbled. "Oh, that reminds me... Sayuri is still waiting for that book I wanted to give her. Aw heck, I'll give it to her at Monday. And if I forget it yet again, I'll just send it to her with P-chan."
The small owl in her hands chirped. Nabiki raised an eyebrow. "Well, only if he doesn't get lost on his way. Why are you still calling him that?"
"Well, 'P-chan' sounds much better than 'Pigwidgeon'. Where did you get that stupid name from, anyway?"
Nabiki shrugged. "Read it in that English novel, you know, the one from that British author... what was her name again? Oh yeah, J.K. Rowling."
"Still, it sounds stupid." She ruffled her pet's feathers affectionally. "P-chan sounds much better in my opinion."
"Dinner is ready!" Kasumis voice came from downstairs.
----
As the Tendos were all having their dinner, Soun suddenly put away his chopsticks and cleared his throat.
"Um, I have something to tell you girls... Genma Saotome, an old friend of mine, will come for a visit. He will arrive tomorrow evening... And he will bring his son, Ranma."
Kasumi listened with interest, while Nabiki and Akane just shrugged. Nothing too interesting.
"And... well, that's not all, I'm afraid..." Soun said in an uncomfortable voice. "See, we kinda made this agreement that one of you... well, will be his son's fiancee."
THAT caught the attention of all the girls.
"FIANCEE?" Akane shouted. "You can't be serious!"
"Is he cute?" Nabiki asked with sudden interest.
"Oh my, I hope he's not too young..." Kasumi murmured with a blush. "Younger men bore me..."
"I really can't say," Soun admitted. "I never met him."
"What?" Akane asked. "You expect one of us to be the fiancee of a boy you never saw before in your life?"
"Surely you have seen a picture of him," Nabiki assumed. "I mean, he could have easily sent you one with an owl..."
"No, he couldn't," their father sighed. "See, that's just the thing... Genma and his son Ranma, well... They are Muggles! They know nothing about the wizardry world at all."
His three daughters stared at him.
"MUGGLES?"
