At the seaside, on a steep cliff where cold winds were blowing, a girl with a cute face, wearing boy's clothing, was sitting.
In front of her, she had a small, portable Okonomiyaki grill.
"Just you wait, Genma Saotome... I will find you and I will have my revenge. For stealing my father's cart..."
Just then, an owl sat down on her head.
"Ow!" Ukyo cried as she felt the sharp talons of the bird. "What the...? Hey, get off me!"
She waved her arms around, but the bird did not move until he had dropped a small envelope in Ukyo's lap. Satisfied, he gave off a small hoot, and flew away.
Ukyo rubbed her head where the owl had placed his talons. Damn, that had hurt...
In confusion, she picked up the envelope and read the address that was written on it with red ink.
UKYO KUONJI
THE CLIFF AT THE SEA
OUTSIDE OF TOKYO, JAPAN
She blinked. Whoever had written that letter clearly knew where to find her right now. Which was strange, because she really hadn't planned on sitting here for long.
After a while, she got the idea of opening the envelope and reading the letter that was inside.
'Dear Mrs. Kuonji,
We are pleased to tell you that you have been accepted at Furinkan School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment.
Term begins on September 1. We await your reply by no later than July 31.
Yours sincerely,
Kimiko Tendo
Deputy Headmistress'
Ukyo looked up from the letter and blinked. She then read it again. And again.
"Oh my god! I'm going to be a witch!"
----
Dr. Ono Tofu was humming to himself as he dusted the shelves and instruments within the hospital wing of Furinkan, school for wizardry and witchcraft, including the skeleton hanging in one corner of the room, called Betty.
A firm knocking on the door made him turn his head around.
"Come in!" he said.
A tall and muscular man entered the room. "Yo, doctor," the young man said in his gruff voice. "Could you take a look at this wound? The Kappas that are living in the back forest are getting restless again."
Dr. Tofu turned around to face the young Keeper of the Keys and Grounds of Furinkan. "Of course, Taro! Sit down here and I'll have a look at it."
Taro did as the doctor instructed and rolled up his sleeve. Tofu inspected the wound.
"Nothing too serious, but be careful when dealing with the Kappa in the future. They don't really like us humans, magical heritage or not."
"Thanks, doc! I'll keep that in mind."
After caring for the wound, Dr. Tofu wrapped it in a bandage that was soaked with a healing essence. "It will be vanished by tomorrow, leaving not even a scar."
"Say, doctor..." Taro said. "Do you know if the headmaster has already found a replacement for the old caretaker? I don't want to gripe, but taking care of two jobs at once isn't exactly easy, you know?"
"I understand your problem," Tofu nodded. "I'm afraid the headmaster is spending too much of his time with that beloved ukulele of his... but the deputy headmistress has already told me that she has taken care of it."
"She did?" Taro asked in surprise. "Well, good to see that she at least takes her job seriously. "
Tofu chuckled. Taro was right, Headmaster Kuno tended to be a bit... unprofessional at times.
Mrs. Tendo was much better. Many students had already said that it was just a matter of time before she would take over Mr. Kuno's job... but Ono knew Kimiko pretty well. She wouldn't accept it, as that would leave her even less time to spend with her three charming daughters.
"Oh Kasumi..." Dr. Tofu murmured. He only had to think of the eldest Tendo sister, and his glasses were fogging up. Many people had already suggested he should cast an Impervius spell on them.
Taro sweatdropped as he realized the good doctor had been hit with a slight case of 'Kasumiitis'. "Well, I'll be going back to do my work, doctor..."
"Sure, I want Pumpkin Pasties with that..." Tofu murmured as he proceeded to douse Betty with a whole bottle of Skele-Gro.
