“My Lord,” said Saberdramon, as he returned to Devimon’s Lair, “I have returned as ordered. However, my mission was a failure. The pair of Digi-Destined still live.”
“I know,” said Devimon, as he looked at his scrying pool. “It appears that the lone pair is as powerful as the larger group,” he mused. “The male seems to ... understand more about the Digivices then I would like,” he mused, ignoring his servant.
“Shall I prepare to assault them again, my Lord?” asked Saberdramon.
“No,” said Devimon. “If they are coming here ... then I will prepare a welcoming for them,” he said. “When they reach Infinity Mountain, their time will be up.
“Now, go fetch Ogremon. I have a use for him.”
“As you wish,” said Saberdramon. Though he was displeased to be sent after the green Digimon, at least it was better than being destroyed by his Dark Master.
Devimon continued to look into the pool. “They are gathering strength faster than I predicted. No, I must move quickly, or all will be lost.”
The image shifted for a moment, focusing on a small human dressed with green, holding a Patamon. “Yes, the prophecy must not come to pass.”
Ranma sighed as he continued his watch for the night. “All those kids, ya think one would know how to survive in the wilderness,” he said.
Not that he minded cooking for them. After all, he had enjoyed learning what he could from Kasumi—such a nice person to talk to as long as it didn’t involve violent maniac sisters—and the children did need to eat. But the whole lot were city-kids, born and bred. From girls obsessed about their looks, to older brothers who couldn’t let the younger stand on their own; it was an interesting lot to say the least.
None of them seemed to either believe or notice how their ki seemed to be absorbed by the Digivices, at least, that was what Izzy called them.
“Dalimon?”
“Hmm?” asked the green lizard Digimon, as his tongue shot out, grabbing some more fruit from the tree, before chewing.
“You sure you guys only know rumors about what’s up there?” he said, pointing to the large mountain in the distance.
“Never had a need to go up there,” said Dalimon. “Besides, I was waiting for you.”
“Me?”
The green Digimon nodded. “I don’t know why, but I felt it was kinda important to wait for you, so I did. But since Ryudamon was there as well, we just waited together.”
“I wonder why?” said Ranma. “If we’re all supposed to work together, why were our two groups so far apart?” he wondered.
“No clue,” said Dalimon. “And they seem to be here longer than you guys were. Then again, maybe you were just sleeping for days before we found you,” shrugged the Digimon.
“Hey guys,” said Joe as he walked over to them. “My turn for watch.”
“Okay,” said Ranma, yawning. “Take care, man. If you’re hungry, I think there’s a little bit left in the cooler.”
The older boy nodded, watching the two leave, and wondering how long he should wait, before he went to explore the mountain ... by himself.
