Chained World Mech: Third Series [Episode 189241]

by Kestral

On this world, the Ottomon Empire had never fallen. The caste system and customs had spread beyond its borders during a surge of exploration and conquest, and in particular the thing that made this a Chained World - its practice of slavery. While the slave did have some rights and legal protection, as well as historic precedent for a number of customary uses and lines-of-conduct, it was still considered less than an ideal profession.

When the Artifact (codename Lillith) was discovered in the late 19th Century, there were those who saw it as a great opportunity within that setup. Slave-soldiers, or mamluk, were something that had been around for centuries and one could say a great many things about them. As mamluk were trained from birth to be exceptional warriors, hard as the steel they wielded and skilled at battle, they were neither great conversationalists nor especially pleasing to the eye.

The first ones built in the rough image of the original were the Steel Angel series built in the 1920s, as well as the steam-powered armored suits known as Koubu wielded by the Imperial Flower Division.

Mahoro was one of the most recent developments in that series. Though she was supposed to be near-death by now and was instead still operating with nearly a full tank of life energy.

It was because of this that Ranma now had Steel Angel Saki in addition to Mahoro. Well, that and yoma-ninja that he'd been fighting.

"So what do we know about these opponents?" asked one of the scientists.

"They're enhanced with the ARAGAMI biomatter, which makes fighting them problematic," said Professor Slipcam.

"Normal warriors would have little chance against them," admitted Professor Light. "That was why the Imperial Flower Troupe used Koubu and their spiritual powers, and why the Steel Angels were authorized in the first place."

"What do we know about this Aragami? Other than it is something similar to Lillith but exploited by some unknown agency?" asked Professor Slipcam.

"More like 'agencies'," said Professor Light. "Every two generations or so they begin making an appearance and menacing Tokyo or some other Japanese city."

"Mostly Tokyo though," mused Professor Slipcam. "Meaning wherever they're based - it's probably in Japan and not in Tokyo itself."

"Well, with Steel Angel Saki and Mahoro fighting alongside him, Ranma Saotome has a much better chance of surviving," said Professor Light.

"The intercom is still on, ya know," said someone in another room.

"You're fighting monsters?" asked Saki, also still in that same room.

"They're mad scientists," said Mahoro, "or at least absent-minded professors. It's to be expected that they forget little details like that."

"So, Master," said Saki, looking down at the floor and blushing slightly, "is there anything special I can do for you?"

"Uhm, excuse me," said Mahoro.

"By the way, both Mahoro and Saki have had THAT upgrade, haven't they?" asked Professor Light.

"Yes, be interesting to see if it would work," agreed Professor Slipcam.

"What upgrade is that?" asked Mahoro.

"Biological emulation of gender role functions," said Professor Slipcam. "As you know, Mahoro, you are quite well regarded by the staff here."

"Well, yes," admitted Mahoro. She knew they liked her. "What kind of functions?"

"Functions regarding gender?" asked Saki. Her eyes widened. "You mean?!"

Glasses glinted dramatically. "Mind you, it hasn't been tested."

"No, but theoretically everything should work just like with a real human female of the appropriate developmental stage," agreed Professor Light.

"What?" asked Mahoro.

"They can do what?" asked Ranma.

"Maternal functions," said Professor Light.

"Oh, that's..." TOING! Mahoro's little maid cap flew off her head to bounce off the ceiling from the force of her hair erupting in wild disarray. "You WHAT?!"

"What's the problem?" asked Professor Light. "I think you'll make a great mother if you choose to engage in that sort of activity."
