As a half-Tatajin, he was extremely powerful and hard to hurt. Which was often a good thing.
"GRARRRR!" indicated something large and dark, reaching clawed hands out to catch him.
"POPS! WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU THINKING?!" Ranma indicated his displeasure at this wakeup.
Genma sat down on a rock, rummaging around in his pack. "What does it look like?"
"LEGGOME!" said Ranma, grabbing the hand wrapped around his waist.
"Ah," said Genma, taking out a waterskin and drawing a deep drink. "The path of a martial artist is fraught with hardship. Through hardship and suffering, comes strength and discipline."
"LEGGO LEGGO LEGGO!" said Ranma, grunting as he pried the fingers off.
"It is the struggle itself," said Genma before taking a sip of water, "which you might say is a metaphor for life itself - which is what brings the strength of the martial artist into being."
"RAAAA!" said Ranma, acrobatically swinging out to land on the monster's arm.
"Naturally, when I heard of an oni (yaoguai) encampment here, I knew it would make perfect martial arts training," said Genma.
"WAHHHH!" said Ranma as something chomped on his butt. "GYAH!" said Ranma as octopus tentacles wrapped around him.
"Pain and suffering," said Genma as he pulled a pillow out of his pack as the rock was entirely too hard to sit on without it. "Ah. Truly, the life of a martial artist is one of peril."
