Meia observed from across the room as Ranma pushed back from the table and patted his belly in contentment.
"Wow, that was really good," Ranma complimented Barnett who was standing nearby attentively.
Barnett looked down demurely and blushed.
"T-thanks, Mister Alien," she giggled, causing Meia to sweatdrop.
"Call me Ranma," the young man told her. "And you are?"
"I'm Barnett."
"So this is a space ship?" Ranma asked, glancing meaningfully out the window.
"Um...yes. It's called the Nirvana," Barnett answered. "Where are all the guys?" Ranma asked.
"There are only four men, including you onboard," Barnett replied. "This ship is from Majaer where only women live. The other men were prisoners from the men's planet, Tarak. However, we left Majaer because we didn't agree with the government so technically we're pirates now. The men have helped us fight off several attacks by the Havesters and we've accepted them as part of the crew."
"Oh man," Ranma whined, looking upward. "I just got away from all my fiancées and now I'm stuck on a space ship with hundreds of women and only three other guys?"
"What are fiancées?" Barnett asked.
"Huh? Um...well, I guess if you come from a planet with only women you wouldn't know," Ranma said thoughtfully. "A fiancée is a girl that is engaged to be married to a man."
"What is married?"
"Oh, well, it's kinda like the man and woman vow to live together and raise a family," Ranma explained. "They give oaths to love, honor, and cherish each other and be there for each other for the rest of their lives."
"Oh, I understand," Barnett smiled. "We have relationships like that on Majaer when two women decide to make a baby together." Ranma blinked. Two women making a baby? He wasn't too sure he wanted to know how that could happen. He was pretty sure it took a male and a female to summon the stork, but he could be wrong.
"So you guys get attacked a lot?" Ranma asked, changing the subject to more comfortable grounds.
"Yes," Barnett agreed. "There's a horrible force out there we call the Harvesters because they go around harvesting humans for their organs and things."
"You're kidding," Ranma gasped. "That's just wrong!"
"That's why we fight them," Barnett said. "I'm a Dread pilot myself."
"What's a Dread?" Ranma asked.
"It's a small single person fighter used by women," Barnett answered. "The men use mecha called Vanguards."
"Hmmm," Ranma said thoughtfully. He wasn't one to stay out of a fight. He was here and didn't think he'd be returning home anytime soon. Perhaps he should look into piloting one of these Vanguards. While Ranma thought this over, Meia decided to have a word with Barnett. She buttonholed the girl and took her into the kitchen. "Can I help you, Meia?" Barnett asked, anxious to get back to Ranma. "I wanted to make a suggestion," Meia said carefully. "As you know, there are now only four men on this ship."
"Yes, and?" Barnett replied wondering where this was going.
"Well...um...it seems that several women are becoming interested in the men," Meia pressed on with a faint blush. "I can see that you're interested in Ranma and I wanted to asked you...wouldyoumindsharingwithme?"
Barnett blinked as she deciphered Meia's garbled request.
"You want to share Ranma with me?" Barnett asked.
Meia nodded, blushing even more.
"But I thought you were interested in Hibiki?" Barnett pointed out.
"Dita and Jura are already chasing him," Meia answered. "And there's something special about that young man out there. I can feel it. Besides, he seems more open to interaction with women than Hibiki so if we play out cards right we can land him before the others realize that."
Barnett looked in Ranma's direction wondering what to do.
"Besides, you heard him; where he comes from it's common for more than one woman to share a man," Meia pointed out.
Barnett looked back at Meia pensively and she decided to...
