"No, we don't have the budget for that," said Shinobu, shaking her head. "We'll have to do without that sort of thing until we've got a salary."
"Nu?" asked Natsuki, looking terribly cute.
"I can get you a ribbon for your tail, but that's about it," said Shinobu.
"Nya?"
"The question is how to train you," said Shinobu. "I didn't really expect to pass that exam."
"Myaa!" said Natsuki, hugging her trainer.
"Uhm, I've got an idea," said Shinobu, gently disengaging herself. "We'll see how the others are doing it."
"Okay," said Ash, clicking the controls on his pokedex.

"I know all that already. Let's see," said Ranma. "Ah, here we go. Attacks."
"Ur?" asked Kasumi.
"It says that with work you can throw a 'Soul Fist' - a dark magic attack," said Ash.
"Hmmm?" asked Kasumi, holding one slender hand up and trying to figure out how she could do that.
"It'd be nice if this said something about - ahHAH! Teaching your pokegirl human speech!"
"Ooo?" asked Kasumi, walking behind Ash so she could look over his shoulder.
The simplest method to teach your pokegirl human-style basic speech is simply spending a lot of time talking to her. As she observes you, she'll get the idea and begin developing the ability to make more and more complex responses.
This method takes from two months with the fastest, to slower learners who can take over a year.While all pokegirls understand a good portion of the dominant human language of the area of their birth, speaking it is another matter altogether. Pokegirls of most types can learn to speak a basic form of that language, the exceptions being those who lack the physical equipment for such. Mantara for example - who are unable to breathe air.
"That long?" asked Ash.
Kasumi made a noise that sounded noncomittal.
"You can READ?" asked Ash, realizing that Kasumi was looking over his shoulder.
"Urrr?" asked Kasumi.
"If you can read, maybe you can write," said Ash, running towards a parkside kiosk that sold sundries. Ignoring that she MIGHT have just been looking at the LCD screen.
Kasumi shrugged and followed.
