Space/Time Fault: Back to the Drawing Board. [Episode 189999]

by Greyman

“Alright, listen up!” said Ami Mizuno.  She stood infront of the other Senshi wearing a gown with a university graduation gap and with a chalkboard behind her.  She was in full lecture mode.  “This is the situation.  The Earth—” she tapped a circle on the board, then a wireframe whirlpool pattern “—has fallen throug a rift in space time.  The laws of this universe are leaking in, displacing the ones we knew.  Magic works well now, technology doesn’t.  It looks like soon, nothing more sophisticated than brute muscle power will work, and maybe steam, but combustion engines and electronics are right out.  This means several things.”

“Firstly our technological dependant society is about to collapse,” Ami said, and tapped a cityscape on flames with stick figures running about in panic.  Some figures had with sticks and stones which they used on others; mainly the ones in sailor fukus.  “The blame will fall on those having, or developing, magic abilities.  Many of the new magic users will be defenseless until they learn to fight back,” she tapped an image of a wizard stick figure turning other stick figures into frogs, “which will only worsen relations.”

“Secondly, the upsurge in magic is letting out all the, ah, boogies.”  Ami tapped a drawing of a bugagboo peering fearfully out of a closette.  Then to one with lots of teeth, grinning and flexing its muscles.  “All the old magical creatures, spirits, and what not, that have existed on the edge are suddenly glutted on magic.  Many are going mad with power.  Fortunately all the old wards, charms, and such are also being strengthened, but too many have been removed over time.  Then too are the new monsters.  Animals mostly, gaining magical power just like people, but also some people transformed by magic and gone mad.”

“We’re not stupid you know,” Usagi said flatly.  “I got all that already.  Without the visual aides even.”

“Moving on,” Ami continued nonetheless, “the third thing.  The laws of magic here are not quite those we know how to use.”

“We know what now?” Minako questioned.  “I wasn’t aware we knew how our powers worked even.  They just, like, did, you know.”

“Uhm, that too.  We nolonger have magic jewellery to rely on.  Anyone who had magic power like us, or had close enough like Ranma, has basically got a huge power up, with no experience with the new system.  We’ve lots of raw power but no control… at all.  But because of these points, we need to learn, and fast!”

“Oh, pooie,” Usagi pouted.  “So that’s what you’ve been working up to?  Work?  Study?”

“More to the point we —and by we I mean us, not the Sailor Senshi— need to: (1) Learn The New Magic, (2) Fight Monsters, (3) Gather Magic Users to Protect Them, (4) Protect People from Magic Users, (5) Keep Society from Collapsing into Barbarity.”

“… That’s a pretty tall order,” Makoto observed.
