“That tickles,” Ranma giggled as the glowing pattern rippled across his skin like an animated tattoo before settling into place. He had a mental picture of Hypre circling around a likely spot before curling into a ball. The pattern even seemed to purr softly beneath his finger stokes.
“Congratulations, Ash,” the Professor told him. “You’ve finally finished wasting my valuable time. Now I can go see what Nanako is doing to Misty. I mean, with. No, I mean, for. I mean…”
“Let’s just go,” Ranma groaned.
It turned out the Professor was extremely disappointed. “Argh! What is going on in here? Is this any way to conduct a scientific examination? Nanako you fool, this is terrible! Misty is fully clothed, you’re not stripped down, and the duplicate is not even floating naked in tubes or anything. How could you? Have I taught you nothing?” He sighed forlornly, then cheered up with a happy thought. “Oh, well, at least I can watch the automated recording of the examination latter.”
“Professor, you pervert! Please destroy the tapes, Nanako!” a blushing Misty demanded. Ranma realised that Nurse Nanako’s examination of the two naked Misties had apparently been quite thorough.
“What?” the Professor protested with hair pulling action. “No! Think of the science, Nanako, the science!”
“So, uhm, you got everything under control now?” Ranma asked Misty.
“Yeah, Ash,” Misty replied. “It feels really weird though. I can sort of feel her in my head, like an echo.”
Ranma bit his lip as a comment about empty spaces tried to escape. How odd, he thought, not to go on the verbal defensive with a girl.
Misty glared at him suspiciously anyway. “What about you, Ash? What did the Pervert do to you?”
“I got Hypre!” Ranma exclaimed, and made a victory sign.
“Oh. You’ve named yours already? I’ve still got to come up with one for mine.”
“Yeah. She’s Hypre because she’–”
“A speed daemon,” Professor Oak explained derisively. “Fairly common and unremarkable. Now that you two have got the basics down, we can move on to important stuff.”
“What are we going to do now, Professor?” Nanako asked.
“What we do every time, Nanako,” he replied. “Try and … are you two still here?”
“Where else would we be?” Ranma demanded. “Just tell us, and we’ll go.”
