The three pilots found a way that they were on a platform that had a ledge running along all edges save one. The final edge had a wall with a door in it. A button was on one side of the door. Grimacing a bit, Asuka touched the button and the door faded out.
"That was different," Rei muttered.
"Let's get out of here," Asuka stated. "This place is really starting to creep me out.
The other two nodded and they left through the door. After all three had passed through, the door rematerialized. Asuka gave it an odd look and shook her head.
"This technology is really advanced. I wonder why it hasn't been used before," Asuka muttered.
"It might have something to do with why we are glowing," Rei replied. "As soon as we find out where we are, we might have an answer."
The three of them searched the building and found steps leading down to the ground level and an opening in the wall, letting people go in and out without problems. Rei stopped and took a look at a group of handlebars floating in mid-air near the entrance.
"I have found a faster way for us to travel than walking," Rei stated. "These handlebars can form some kind of motorcycle around us, if we go into a specified stance while holding them."
Asuka and Shinji went over to where Rei was at and saw the pictures on the walls about how the handlebars were to be used. Asuka shook her head in disbelief.
"This place is really starting to weird me out," Asuka said while holding up her hand.
"Let's use them. I have no idea how far it is to that beam of light," Shinji said, as he grabbed a handlebar that had yellow highlights.
Asuka shook her head, sighed and grabbed one with red highlights. Rei looked through them, before she found one in blue. The three of the got into the proscribed stance and motorcycles of their respective color formed around them. They took off through the opening towards the nearest beam of light with Shinji leading. Shinji saw that there was display that showed a picture of Rei and Asuka.
"Rei? Asuka? Can you hear me?" Shinji asked.
"Yes," came a unisoned response.
"Apparently we have some kind of voice activated radio," Shinji said. "How fast are we going?"
Rei took a look at the controls and shook her head. "I can not tell you. I have no idea what some of these displays mean. All I can tell you is that we are travelling very fast."
A light blinked and a beeping noise alerted Shinji that something was amiss. He glanced down and then looked forward. He saw what looked like the wreckage of a glowing tank. He quickly turned the bars hard and the cycle did an immediate ninety-degree turn. He quickly got back on course and noticed that Asuka and Rei had done the same thing.
"That should have killed us," Asuka stated in shock and a bit of fear. "Instant ninety degree turns without any sort of inertia affecting us? This isn't possible."
"It seems that we are operating under different rules of physics," Rei said calmly.
"Yeah. Right. Ones that put neon lights across us like a printed circuit board? I hope we get some answers soon," Asuka said.
Back in the real world, Misato arrived at the ENCOM building with Kaji, Ritsuko, and some NERV guards. Misato took a deep breath and gave some orders. Gendo was at NERV HQ upset that a low danger area had such a nasty surprise hidden within it.
"Squad One, Four and Five search this entire building for any sort of information. Squad Two prevent anyone from entering this building. Squad Three you're with us. We're heading down to room 35 on the second basement level."
After Misato gave the commands, she angrily panted and stormed into the building. Ritsuko, Kaji, and a group of ten men followed her. A group of thirty men also entered the building and broke into three ten-man teams to search the building.
"What was the last thing that was reported?" Ritsuko asked.
"They had found some sort of active teleportation device and were trying to access a computer to get information from it," Misato hissed in reply.
"Teleportation? I didn't think that was possible," Ritsuko said in shock.
"Asuka just typed in 'reindeerflotilla' into a computer and the next thing that I heard was Asuka yelling 'what' and some strange humming. After that the radio kicked off and I couldn't raise them since."
"They might have activated the teleporter and are now out of range," Ritsuko mused, thinking frantically. "We have to find out where they went to and get them back."
"Regardless of anything else. This place is being confiscated by NERV. An active teleporter is way too dangerous to leave unguarded. If an Angel got to it and used it, it could get into NERV before we would know it," Misato declared with a lot of force.
"Right. I wonder how this is going to look to the UN?" Ritsuko mused and then shook her head.
Misato pulled out her radio and spoke into it. "Teams One, Four and Five how goes the search and assessment?"
"Team One here. This building is pretty much undamaged by anything that has happened so far. It only has a few areas without power and those are due to blown fuses. We are still hunting for hard files."
"Team Four here. We have determined that this building's outer wall was made of some strange alloy that is tougher than anything we use currently was. It can be secured fairly easily."
"Team Five here. We have found the personnel office and have run into something strange. We have a listing of people that worked here. We radioed back to headquarters and found out that without exception, every one vanished without a trace. There were no bodies and the disappearances were a day before Second Impact."
Misato blinked at that revelation. "Somehow they knew of Second Impact and fled. They fled somewhere where Second Impact wouldn't reach them."
"That is our supposition and headquarters' as well," Team Five's leader radioed back.
"Thank you Team Five. Keep searching and radio back to headquarters. I want to know everything about ENCOM. Every dirty little secret and who all worked for them needs to be on my desk as soon as possible."
"Roger, Captain."
Misato killed the radio and looked at Ritsuko. "Ideas?"
"Not a one," Ritsuko said, shaking her head. "We'll have to crack into the computers here. I'd rather set up a line into that lab and then use the MAGI while we're all safe from whatever surprises might be hidden here."
