Yoruichi was sitting in a tree in the forests of Hokkaido wondering what was going on with her. She had originally chosen to seclude herself in this forest because it was in the middle of no where. Soul Society would expect her to try in hide in a major city in the hopes that the reiryoku of so many different people would help mask her own spiritual power. Such tactics were unnecessary for her given that the gigai she had made her power untraceable.
Originally, Yoruichi had merely intended to stay in the forest for a week or two before heading out to check up on Kisuke. Those plans had changed as Yoruichi fought daily bouts of morning sickness and had to deal with strange fluctuations in her reiryoku. She had considered going to Kisuke to check if there was some defect in her gigai, but she had decided against such actions. If such there was such a fault, then it was likely that her gigai's ability to mask reiryoku was failing. Such a situation would mean that going to Kisuke would cause Soul Society to find him and the other exiles. It would be better for her to stay away from them in such a situation.
Unknown to Yoruichi, her zanpakuto knew exactly what was going on with the self-exiled Shihoin. The former captain was pregnant and had been ever since the night she had fled Soul Society. That was the night that she had been in the presence of Hogyoku. Yoruichi hadn't fully realized that she was pregnant yet because her mind couldn't accept her current state. After all, she hadn't been in a situation where she could normally become pregnant for years.
Such things as normality never matter where the Hogyoku is involved. It had sensed Yoruichi's secret desire unknown to even her that lay within her heart. That desire was to have a child she could love and care for without having to pay even lip service to things like being a member of the four noble families. Yoruichi's taking Soi Fon under her wing had been an expression of this wish.
Fulfilling Yoruichi's desire had been a simple task for the Hogyoku. All the Hogyoku needed to do was manipulate one of Yoruichi's eggs so that it was fertilized. Ranma's soul being drawn to Yoruichi's womb had happened because of the duo's shared desires. The former Saotome wanted to be born to someone who would love him and have the chance to become great. The former captain of Squad 2 had occasionally dreamed that any children she might one day have would be great fighters and wouldn't be concerned about propriety.
