Coupled Union - Wild Fires: Simmering Heat [Episode 191726]

by Kender

Hanging up after her phone call with Nabiki, Rei didn't move to rush into anything else. Most people would have turned away from the telephone, and walked away to attend to other things, but she was too busy to dismiss it like that. After all, she'd just been told that her husband, the boy that she loved was coming back to where they could be reunited, and her eyes didn't really see anything as her thoughts got lost in memory and emotion.

To tell the truth though, she would have once been the first to admit that she couldn't see herself getting married to anyone. Given her own experiences, and her own lack of luck in such matters, she'd not been so sure that she'd get into some great romance all that soon. In fact, she'd even had a time when she was thinking that she'd merely dedicate her life to helping Usagi build a better future, and avoid all that messy stuff.

And then had come that holiday when she'd been working at the shrine, and Ranma Saotome had come into her life. He might have merely come for the festivities, but that first encounter had set them onto the path of unity. Not that she'd particularly felt all that romantic towards him, as they'd fought the first time that they'd met. Yet, there had been something about him that had excited her even then, and she couldn't be around him without feeling truly alive.

She let a small smile curve her lips as she allowed herself to recall that feeling. It had been a surprise to discover it there, but she supposed that his 'rough and tumble' persona appealed to her. Ranma was strong, both in will and body, and wasn't someone who wasted time with pretty words and platitudes. Heck, she wasn't even sure that he knew what a 'platitude' was. But he certainly had a clarity about the world that she could only admire, and he never hid any sort of agenda, as his sole real ambition, other than to love her, was to be the 'best' in his Art.

Oddly enough though, her father didn't seem to particularly like him. Oh, he'd be polite about it, and didn't seem to want to make a scene about her relationship with the martial artist, but he was never all that friendly either. Of course, it might have come from how they were from different worlds, as she remembered a certain party demonstrating. She'd been wearing a rather attractive dress, trying to keep the boy she loved from fussing with his tuxedo, and been bothered by a parade of young men her father had introduced her to under the explanation of wanting to 'show off their accomplishments'. That party hadn't helped Ranma's opinion of her father to grow more favorable, and the pigtailed boy had obviously fought to be... 'polite' to her father for a long time.

Of course, she didn't particularly like Genma Saotome either. Given that her husband didn't particularly like his father had made the lack of respect for both elder men rather easy to accept for the two of them.

It had been thoughts about both fathers that had revealed the depth of her feelings for Ranma too. As she'd been considering their parenting skills, or lack of them, she'd grown to be disgusted with both men, and had immediately sworn to herself that she and Ranma would never raise their children as their fathers had treated them. When she'd realized what she'd promised herself, she had gone back over her feelings, and slowly discovered that she felt so much for him that she couldn't stop herself from seeing him in her future. And given that each mental image of the two of them living their lives together had made her heart swell with joy, she knew that she had no other choices that she wanted to take.

So despite wanting to chain Genma Saotome to the bottom of a dry well at times, she had to accept him... somewhat as she had found her soulmate. From the time when they'd learned to put their passion into their romance, they'd grown closer and closer until it simply became natural to be together. They certainly hadn't become complacent, or just did things by rote, as their natures had made things... 'interesting' to say the least. Their lives had gotten so close, and they'd even shared in the discoveries of what their relationship could create, like how he'd found martial arts that could go well her meditations.

All that had led to her becoming his wife, and she welcomed that fact. Actually, she was finding it rather easy to accept the idea that 'a wife's place was at her husband's side'. The desire to be with him was like a flame within her, and even though she knew that she could tell others about his return, she wanted to get to him even more. Usagi might have really liked him, and her mother-in-law might have enjoyed the status and opportunity for mothering that having her for a daughter-in-law might have brought, but there were other concerns at the moment.

The major one was the fact that her bonehead of a father-in-law was planning on trying to get her husband to marry one of three girls, all of whom happened to be friends of hers. Considering the fact that Japan had not legalized polygamy as of yet, and she didn't want to share him, no matter how much she liked the girls, there would have to be a stop put to that idea.

All of that meant that she she couldn't help but feel pleasure at his coming return, and could wait for it.

Twirling about, she rushed away from the phone, and headed back to her room, while:
