He could feel the sensation of something trickling down his forehead. He didn't bother to remove the space suit's helmet since his chances of survival were very slim at best after that last strike he did against the enemy's most powerful weapon. 'I must look like shit right now...'
Speaking of looking like shit, that was a very accurate description for the inside of his cockpit. Sparks flying, controls shot and multiple blotches of pink to seal the micro fractures that formed during the pressure of his last move. The only systems still relatively intact were life support and communications and even they won't hold out for long.
The radio started coming to life with a garbled transmission coming from the other side. "-ear me, please respo-"
He figured that his comrades will try to mount a rescue mission. His finger went to a panel and tapped it a few times to get whatever propulsion he could to put as much distance as he could between his comrades and himself.
"Dammit, K------------ hell are you doing?!"
He wondered if they would actually be able to receive this message but he still sent it anyway. "I suggest you put as much distance as you can. You guys are still fairly deep within the blast radius."
"What about you?!"
The young pilot wearily glanced at the disintegrating structure that had taken the full force of his final attack. "It's far too late to do anything for me... besides, you guys already knew that I had to do what needed to be done, no matter what the cost." He gave a soft chuckle that held a tone of regret. "Sorry for not keeping that last promise. It's been a blast hanging with you guys. Take care... aniki."
"You little Sh-" The radio just about fried out at this point. Good. He didn't need these sentiments to distract him from his last goal to help protect his friends. His entire body ached but he ignored it as he worked quickly to divert all remaining resources into whatever working propulsion he had left to put as much distance as possible.
'Bypass... complete.' He allowed himself to relax as his unit's propulsion systems hurled them into a safe area of space where the potential damage from the blast radius would be minimized. 'Heh... the Doc would have a fit if he saw what I did to his Gundam...' He then blacked out as the cockpit temperature rose rapidly.
**********
'What type of dream was that?' As he awoke and regained his vision, he could see he had two guests crowding his cockpit. One was a female with long dark hair, glasses and dressed in a white trench coat with a dark shirt, a pair of shorts and high stockings which went past her knees while the other was a boy with orange hair, goggles and more down to earth attire with a green t-shirt and brown overalls. He took off his helmet, which now resembled something that an evil Overlord would wear. "For some reason, I can't help but feel that Fate has given me the finger..."
"Huh?"
"... never mind. Who are you?"
The girl gave him a cautious glance. "Shouldn't you introduce yourself first?"
The male sitting in the cockpit seat sighed. "Very well. My name is..." He paused and he searched his memory for his name. "Odd... I can't seem to remember. I know it started with a K..."
At that point, the cockpit rumbled and both of his guests were startled. "I'm Rick! She's Rosa! Now can you please get us out of here?!"
"Uh... sure." The pilot then noticed a component clenched in his right hand and saw a small empty space on his right. "Here we go!" He slammed down the component in the empty socket on the right and the mobile suit along with his monitor started booting up.
