Chained World: Right Back At You.... [Episode 193105]

by Kender

It had come from a simple enough need. Neither Sayuri, nor herself, were combatants, and Yuka knew it. They might have grown up and been around plenty of martial artists, but the fact was that they didn't know how to fight. Oh, sure, they could join in on the 'mob scenes' that would pop up from time to time when some boy was being perverted, but that was more of a group effort. If it really came down to it, the best that they could do to protect themselves would be to run away, which wasn't always possible.

And since their Master was the sort of person who seemed to attract challengers, rivals, and enemies, it was only a matter of time before something would happen to try to harm them. Perhaps the person in question would want to hurt him through them, or they might want to use them as bait to pull him into an encounter of that individual's choice. Either way, they'd be left at whatever mercy that person had, and there were plenty of stories of how that could go wrong without them having to imagine ones specific to their situation.

What she had wanted was a simple enough spell which would give them the time and protection to withdraw to safety. They might not be able to leave the area, but they could keep the creeps away, especially if the jerks in question weren't big enough to bother their Master with. A basic shield spell would keep them safe, and a lecher trying to grope them on a train could get a good lesson from an electric shock. She didn't want to run into battle at his side quite yet, but the idea of being able to run off a burglar with some sort of illusion did have its appeal.

Instead, she'd found that she'd gone and mostly mastered was something called 'Rebuke'. Oddly enough, it was found in women in positions of authority, matrons, or something similar. In its basic form, it was a way to slap down troublemakers, where they would get a jolt from their own anger and aggression, so that they'd be pushed out of that sort of combative state. However, her talent with using it would actually physically stun the individual, possibly leaving them floored, if used correctly. From what she had read, it had the power to actually do physical harm in another form, but she wasn't all that sure that she'd want to do that, never mind if she'd gotten to that level.

Actually, she'd discovered her ability in using it when she'd accidentally done so during a bit of tussle in a slave holding area. Two slavegirls had been going at each other, looking to actually get into a physical fight, and it had seemed that there was going to be some blood shed. Both were clearly fighters, though they were more brawlers than martial artists, and neither one seemed to be the sort to be nice and gentle to anyone.

That fight had been prevented when she'd reflexively snapped at them, and wound up whipping her 'Rebuke' spell at the pair. Doing so had knocked the surprised combatants silly, and allowed the authorities to take things in hand. The fact that she'd taken the task of stopping the fight in such a way had not been seen as the best choice, but those in charge had been pleased by her behavior none the less.

Yuka had been pleased that she had something that would be useful in any case. She did have something to use to protect herself and Sayuri, even if it wasn't the 'normal' sort of spell that she'd expected to get down. Her hope was to learn more magic, so that she could use her limited talents in the subject as best she could, since, not only would it be a big help for their group's usual life, but a slave with skills could help bring in cash.

Though, if nothing else, she wanted to be able to prevent any future... mistakes on her part in her magical activities, and hoped that she could make her Master proud, while:
