Genma took a little longer, eyeing customers and passer-by before taking his own place.
"If yer worried, Pop," said Ranma, "use it."
"Foolish boy," said Genma. "It would identify us." After all, how many kusari-gama had chains that moved of their own volition to point out enemies?
"Like we just fit in on any ol' street?" asked Ranma. "So. What's this Talk ya need to give me?"
"This isn't the time or place for that," said Genma quickly.
"Why not?" asked Ranma, now more curious than ever.
Genma thought quickly and pulled an answer out of somewhere. "It involves secret techniques."
"Ah," said Ranma, accepting that. If it involved secret techniques, then he'd get the lowdown later. Of course, it made him even MORE interested in that talk.
"'secret techniques'?" asked an openly skeptical Tenten.
"Yes, err," said Genma but realized he was committed now. "Secret techniques only passed on through the Saotome family, perfected over generations."
"Whoa," said Ranma. Sounded really interesting now. "So why haven't you mentioned this before now?"
"Family secrets and... you need a partner to practice them," tried Genma, beginning to sweat now.
"Hmmmm?" hmmmmed Tenten. Was he just blowing smoke? Whatever. As kunoichi she needed to turn towards the street and watch for threats. Most of her techniques were best at distance anyway.
Ranma decided the number four sounded best. Beef broth ramen with an egg. Hey, he was a growing boy and needed protein!
Genma went with the number three. Pork ramen. He had a feeling he was going to need something that would stick with him.
Tenten went with an egg ramen and watched the streets, her attention finally being drawn to someone else slurping ramen at the booth. It took a few moments of puzzling before she realized this was:
