"Jamil? If I can speak to you in private please?" The leader of the New United Nations Earth was about to get out of seat from the conference table when he heard his old rival ask him to stay a bit longer. Obviously, he had something sensitive to discuss. He glanced at Sala Tyrrell, his wife and his administrative assistant, and silently asked her to leave. She got the message and closed the door behind her as she exited.
The latest meeting between the delegates of the United Nations Earth and the Space Revolutionary Army had come to a close. The focus of this meeting had been on regional trade as some regions on the Earth were in a better position to do more business with the Colonies. The public on both sides have been pushing their governments to ease up nation security to increase trading efficiency. Needless to say, both sides had discussed about it in great detail and were closer to making an agreement on which security policies to loosen and rescind. "What is it you wanted to speak of, Lancerow?"
Lancerow Dowell, the current Space Revolutionary Army President, ran a white gloved hand through his slick red hair. "The independence of the colonies. It still remains a strong desire in the hearts of the colonists even though they are benefitting from the extra business coming from various regions of the Earth."
"You know, I was wondering when you would speak of that sensitive subject," murmured Jamil. Honestly, he personally wouldn't mind since the Colonists are more than self-sufficient and may be more willing to pour more resources into boosting reconstruction efforts for regions that have yet to catch up to major cities. "But you'll have a tough battle ahead. There will be plenty of opposition on my council on this matter."
The other man gave a simple grin. "I'll just have to sell a good argument then." The grin dropped as a strange chill ran throughout his body. 'W-what the...?'
He looked over to see that a similar facial expression was on Jamil's scarred face. "... what was that about?"
The conference room door suddenly swung open to reveal Sala's distressed look. "Jamil!! Someone's accessing the Satellite System!!"
"WHAT?!?" Both men rushed from their seats past Sala to see the computer used to monitor the lunar station and saw the following...
UNITED NATIONS EARTH
REQUEST OF SATELLITE SYSTEM USAGE BY GX-9900, NT-009 ACCEPTED
Coodinates: 43, 16 Mark 74
'A Gundam's using the Satellite Cannon from the Sea of Lorelei?!' Horrified at the thought, Jamil turned to the ensign watching over the console. "Can you block the request signal?"
"Negative! The signal is completely bypassing all of our security protocols as if they weren't even there!"
"Then send the nearest UNE fleet to investigate! And make sure that they stay clear of the cannon's firing range!" The UNE leader looked back at the glowing screen with dread in his heart. 'To whoever is piloting the GX... please don't fire that weapon. Not in front of Lucille...'
Lancerow was also disturbed at this latest development. The surprise appearance of a GX-9900 not only poses a threat to everything he has worked for but it will undoubtedly push back any talk of colonial independence for at least several years. He made a note to himself to send a message back to the SRA and get at least two extra ships in orbit just in case things got hairy.
**********
"Doctor! What is the status of Ambassador Carris?!" asked one of the politicians running for mayor at Fort Severn.
The doctor closed the door to his patient's room before addressing the small audience gathered. "He's recovering slowly but I'm not sure what could have caused this condition. It can't be a normal Synapse Syndrome attack since his brainwaves never spiked during that period in which he experienced that wave of coldness."
"Coldness? Can you elaborate?"
"I wish I could. All he could say when I tried to ask about it further was 'Strong Killer Intent'..."
