The Senshi looked at Ranma for a moment then turned to Setsuna. She was for once in an information-sharing mood and by a silent consensus they all agreed that she would be the one to explain who and what they were. Setsuna rubbed her the bridge of her nose in resignation before beginning. “Alright this is the short version,” said Setsuna. “The whole story would take entirely too long. We are known as the Sailor Senshi,” she gestured to the other girls in the room. “We and a few others are all that is left of a time called the Silver Millennium. At the fall of the Silver Millennium there was a great battle between the Dark Kingdom, our enemy that was ruled by a woman called Queen Beryl that was controlled by an alien entity called Metallia, and us. They attacked by surprise and caught us off guard. Both sides suffered heavy loses and in the end Queen Serenity, who was our ruler at the time, cast a spell that would allow the Sailor Senshi to be reborn and sealed the Dark Kingdom away.”
“Yeah you mention a bit of that out in the yard,” Ranma spoke up to show he was following along. Setsuna was starting to sound like a teacher giving a lecture but because she was talking about battles he was paying close attention. After all anything that includes a fight is an interest to Ranma.
Setsuna nodded before continuing. “Fast forward to a few years ago to when the seal holding the Dark Kingdom imprisoned began to weaken and Beryl started sending Yoma and her Generals out to gather Ki so she could further weaken the seal.” Ranma looked even more interested at the mention of Ki but for once held his tongue. “One by one the Inners,” Setsuna pointed to them as she said this, “were awakened and fought the Yoma and Generals at least once a week. After a nearly a year of this they confronted and defeated Beryl and Metallia.
“After a few weeks of peace another problem reared its head, this time from the future,” Setsuna said the end with a slight growl. Unknown to most people she rather angry at her future self for allowing so many people to travel through time when preventing such events was her primary job. Before the others could ask what was wrong she pressed onward. “Usagi’s future daughter Chibi-Usa came back in time to escape the enemy known as the Dark Moon Clan. They followed her and were trying prevent the establishment of Crystal Tokyo.”
“Crystal Tokyo?” Ranma asked.
“Future capital city of the world,” Setsuna answered. Ranma half shrugged and half nodded accepting what she said. “Now the Black Moon Clan started attacking various parts of the city using Droids, another kind of low to medium powered demon, to destroy key areas that would later become Crystal Tokyo. The Inners fought them off. Eventually they went into the future to try and stop the attacks at the source. At one point Chibi-Usa was captured and turned evil taking the name Black Lady. After now fighting Black Lady, Droids, and various members of the Black Moon Clan in the present and the future the battles came to an end when they defeated the Death Phantom, who was controlling the Black Moon Clan.”
“Ok so when do you four come into this?” Ranma asked pointing to the Outers.
“I allowed the Inners to go to the future but was not involved directly,” Setsuna answered. “The others didn’t come until the next crisis, the Death Busters.” Setsuna paused to take a sip of her reheated tea. Her throat was getting a little raw after all this talking. “The Death Busters used Daimons…”
“Another kind of demon?” Ranma asked.
“Yes, and try not to interrupt,” Setsuna replied. “The Daimons were used to steal Heart Crystals. They are a representation of the source of a person’s Ki.” Ranma looked surprised at this. He knew if a Daimon to his Heart Crystal it would have left him powerless. He then wondered what his Heart Crystal would look like and how big it was. Then he wondered why these Death Busters and the Dark Kingdom for that matter, never went to Nerima with all the strong Ki users there. He did not ask because Setsuna said not to interrupt and she briefly looked like his mother when she was upset with him. That is not a pleasant sight. “The stealing of Heart Crystals served two purposes. One was to find three Talismans that would bring forth the Chalice that would give them a lot of power. And two to provide sustenance for creature called Mistress 9 who would bring a giant parasite called Pharaoh 90 that would destroy the world.
“Now was when the other Outers showed up,” Setsuna related. “Michiru and Haruka were at first working independently from the Inners and Hotaru,” Here Setsuna paused to look at Hotaru a little sadly, “was possessed by Mistress 9.” Ranma was shocked again. He looked at Hotaru with a bit of sympathy as he dealt with a couple of possessions himself. “Chibi-Usa had also came back in time again to train in her own Sailor Powers and ended up starting a friendship with Hotaru. After dozens of fights the Talismans were revealed to be located in Haruka and Michiru’s Heart Crystal and on my Time Key. Then after Mistress 9 consumed Chibi-Usa’s Heart Crystal and was fully awakened. She opened a portal to allow Pharaoh 90 to come to Earth. Fortunately Hotaru awakened her own powers and cast Mistress 9 out of her body. She later went on to destroy Pharaoh 90. Normally she would have been forced her to sacrifice herself in the process but Usagi healed her. Unfortunately Usagi over did it and changed Hotaru into a baby.
“Now our most recent crisis, that just ended, was the Dark Moon Circus, that was ruled by Queen Nehellenia. They used things called Lemures to try and steal a person’s Dream Mirror.” Here Ranma gave a look saying he did not understand the big deal. Setsuna decided to explain, “A Dream Mirror represents a person’s mind. If it is stolen then the person becomes a mindless husk or simply dies. Now that was not their real goal however, they were searching for Pegasus who could enter dreams and was the key in keeping Nehellenia imprisoned or setting her free. They got close but we all stopped them in the end.”
Setsuna finished and waited for Ranma’s reaction. After a few minutes of silence Ranma spoke, “So you girls have been fighting to keep the world safe for four years, fought all kinds of demons and aliens, and even traveled through time?” The Senshi gave a synchronized nod to his answer. “Guess we’re not that different. I’ve been fighting almost non-stop for the past couple of years. Of course those were mostly weird Martial Artists. Although I did fight some demons a couple of times. And I didn’t save the world but I guess I saved at least China as Saffron said he wanted to burn it all to the grown. Hell I even traveled through time once.” The Senshi looked at each other then back a Ranma. They really wanted to know his story now. Before they could ask however, Ranma spoke again, “Just a couple of questions though. Why didn’t those guys you fought ever come over to Nerima? I mean Nerima is full of people with huge amounts of Ki, like me. And two that why didn’t I ever here of this?”
Setsuna answered Ranma’s second question with a question. “How often did you pay attention to anything happening outside of Nerima?”
“Only when I had to leave,” Ranma answered. “But I don’t see....Oh right. I didn’t know because I didn’t pay attention.”
Setsuna gave a nod before taking another drink of her tea. “The Dark Kingdom couldn’t of the chaotic mystical aura of Nerima. That’s also the reason why I can’t look into the district, too much chaos magic. Another result of a battle with Beryl’s forces, just like Jusenkyo. As for the others I don’t know why none of them went to Nerima. Unlike the Dark Kingdom they were not dependent on portals to travel to and from their bases. All they had to do was walk there.”
“I think I might know,” Hotaru spoke up. Everyone turned to her giving her curious looks to explain. “Well I once overheard Kaolinite mentioned something about the an old imp grouping any Daimon that tried to steal Heart Crystals in Nerima.”
“Who would have thought the Old Letch would have been good for something other than causing people problems?” Ranma asked after realizing whom Hotaru was talking about.
“Um, Niisan maybe you should tell us about you life,” Ami suggested.
