And at that moment, one monk, who had come after all those many disciples before him, was out checking upon a disturbance in the lands near the temple.
That hadn't been his intention when he'd left the complex, as he'd been merely aiming for some time to be alone with his thoughts. Strength and durability might have been virtues that the temple promoted, but they were not merely physical or social. There was something to be said for being able to have a strength of spirit, and none of the other monks were about to complain if he wished to focus on that. Such work was part of what they did, and protesting what they would do themselves wasn't exactly something that seemed reasonable.
So, he had been alone in the forest, and thought that he would continue to have a quiet time without another human around. However, the sound of voices echoed through the normally serene woods, which was a surprise, as that wasn't a usual thing. Normally, campers didn't head to such an isolated area, and this place wasn't quite impressive enough to call tourists interested in ancient historical sites in any great numbers. Yet, there did have to be something said for the skills of the visitors, as it didn't seem that they were being terribly disruptive of the area around them.
The surprise really came from the fact that they were there at all, and, if what he was hearing was right, at least one of them was female. Whoever she was, she sounded young, though if she was either girl or young woman, he couldn't tell yet. Her presence did catch his attention though, and the unusual nature of having a woman near what was sanctuary free of any sort of gender influence did seem like cause for investigation.
With that in mind, he slipped closer to the campsite, wondering what he would find there. It wasn't all that hard to move nearer, given that it was in a wooded area, but he didn't try to rush in. Confrontation would be for later, as he didn't even know why these people were there. His first aim was to see what he would be dealing with, and then he could go on from there.
