Gatekeepers 1/2: Gate Of Doors, not Jim Morrison. [Episode 194361]

by Kestral

"WHERE THE HELL AM I NOW?!" yelled Ryoga at the sky. As the Gatekeeper whose power was the Gate Of Doors, this was an especially vexing problem.

His first response, after venting, was to use the GPS he'd gotten from that damn Saotome and AEGIS. Not that he wouldn't use the thing, he just KNEW that smirk on Saotome's face meant the other boy was off laughing about it somewhere.

Unfortunately, the GPS came up with nothing. Since it was obviously working (the little display popping up immediately with a No Signal In Range) that meant that he was not on Earth. Again.

Looking around at crystalline buildings assured him he was not in Hell itself. Or if he was - this was a different section. No smouldering volcanoes. No wailing and screaming in the background. Nobody merged with walls or roads and a distinct lack of thorns and spikes and hooks.

In fact, Ryoga was pretty sure he'd never been here before. "Looks kind of like Crystal Tokyo actually."

He walked up to one of the vehicles and peeked inside. Shriveled mummified occupant. Not someone he could ask for directions from.

"At least it's not the Moon again," said Ryoga into the silence. Though in THAT case he'd at least been able to talk to the little hologram-queen. It was just that as soon as he'd wandered out of the air-filled area, he'd panicked and his Gate had triggered again. Which had put him into a girl's bath in Kobe.

The Gate Of Doors. When he had control of it, he could find himself exactly where he needed to be. When he didn't have control of the Gate, which was rather more of the time, he could end up anywhere. Past, future, other worlds, space, and so on and so forth.

Once he'd had the hiccups and had ended up in dozens of different places within seconds of each other. That had been rather bad.

"Ryoga," said a large metal box on treads.

"Do I know you?" asked Ryoga.

"This is Professor Natsume," said the box. "Speaking to you through a communications device in this rover, so DON'T go breaking it open looking for me."

"I wasn't going to," said Ryoga. Do something like that once and these people never let you forget it.

"Can you check out those buildings?" asked Professor Natsume.

"Ryoga Hibiki. The Gate Of Doors," said Iwasawa. "The ability to create 'wormholes' in space/time."

"If we could ever figure out how he does it, the stars themselves would not be beyond our grasp," said Professor Seiga.

"He won't stick around," said Ranma. "Ten minutes - tops. Then he'll get confused by something and end up in some back alley in Instanbul or somewhere."

"It could be worse," said Iwasawa. "We had Mister Hibiki in a lab when he got flustered by a female technician."

"I remember that," said Ranma. "How IS that gal anyway?"

"Still has a problem with heights," said Iwasawa. "Also cold. She's hardly limping at all any more."

"Poor girl," said Hotaru, shaking her head.
