Naruto opened his eyes.
The first thing that hit him was the sound of dripping water, constant and echoing. The second thing was the sight of the sewer tunnel, a green liquid flowing through. Naruto braced himself for the rancid stench…but there was none.
Picking himself up off the ground, he began walking through the tunnel. At the end, the tunnel opened into a vast room, half of it separated by bars, almost like a…
“Oh, not this again.”
From behind the bars, Naruto could see the massive form of the Nine-Tailed Fox. “I’m not thrilled with your visit either, kit,” he growled.
“Augh!” Naruto yelled in frustration, his voice echoing throughout the room. “Like I’d want to visit you! You’re just some overgrown furball that’s made my life miserable!”
The blood-red eyes of the Kyuubi leered at Naruto. “I made the forces of nature my playthings. I learned things that would make humans crawl under a rock and hide from the sun. I watched the universe that came before this one crumble. I destroyed everything that could hold me back…I’m everything you stupid humans want to be, not some mere ‘furball.’”
“Like I care!”
Naruto turned and sat on the tunnel floor, looking away from the Kyuubi, who simply grunted and closed his eyes.
Several moments passed, with no sound but the steady trickle of water. It was then that Naruto thought of something. He looked over his shoulder at the Kyuubi and said:
“Fox…you say you know everything, right? What do you know about the Master PC?”
Silence. And then the Kyuubi’s eyes opened a crack and replied, “…Well, why not? I haven’t paid you rent in ages anyway.”
Naruto looked straight at the Kyuubi, giving him his full attention, as the demon fox said, “I don’t know where it comes from…but it’s about as old as I am…maybe more. But I do know that many humans before this so-called ‘Emperor’ have gotten their hands on it and used it for their own personal gain. Typical human behavior, in other words. It can alter reality…but it is limited by the imagination of its wielder.”
Revelation dawned on Naruto’s face. “Wait…if you’re as powerful as the Master PC…then your power will protect me from it! Great! So I’ve got-“
“I never said that. If the Emperor tries to alter you…I’ll just stall him at best. We’re two souls inside one body…it’d just take the Master PC some time to lock onto us. I don’t know how much time…it could take a minute, hours…your best bet is to just lay low until you can kill the Emperor and take the Master PC. You’ve been doing a crappy job of it so far…that female got the drop on you easily.”
Naruto just stared at the Kyuubi. The fox noticed this and said, “Look…I know what you’ve been through. And I respect you for it. But my assistance is mostly for my own sake…if you die, I die. So don’t screw up.”
Naruto was a bit unnerved by the newfound understanding between them…but it oddly comforted him. Getting up, he turned to leave the tunnel when the Kyuubi said, “Of course, it’ll be a thousand times easier once you become Emperor…”
Naruto stopped dead in his tracks. “What?”
“Silly kit. I can see everything that goes on in your head…I live in it, remember? I see those hidden desires…you’ve dreamed of having that PC…frankly, I don’t blame you…all the respect you’ve ever wanted, all there with the click of a mouse…”
Naruto whirled back around. “Like hell! I’d never use that stupid—“
“You have to anyway if you want to bring all of them back to normal.”
“Yeah…but…I’m doing this for the village, not for myself! I—“
The air around the cage seemed to sizzle, as the Kyuubi’s tails twitched in anger. A wall of air hit Naruto head on, who was completely unprepared by the fox’s killing intent.
“Stupid kit! I told you this has happened before! Some guy uses the Master PC to gain power, and then some romantic idiot takes the PC for the sake of ‘justice’ and becomes the new avatar of the program! It’s a cycle!”
Even against the power of the Kyuubi, Naruto smirked. “Then I’ll break it!”
If the air was sizzling before, it now exploded, as the full rage of the Kyuubi broke out. Waves of force slammed into Naruto as the fox scratched and snarled, trying to break free.
“You little whelp! I have the power to destroy civilizations thousands of times over! Do you know how long I’ve tried to pass it on to you?! All those who prosecuted you, dust in the wind! All who doubted you, bones beneath your feet! All the women you ever wanted, kissing the ground you walked on!”
The force was too much for Naruto, the room growing darker; the Kyuubi’s voice ringing in his ears.
“EVERY HUMAN LIVES FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF TRYING TO BECOME A GOD! WHY DON’T YOU?!?!??!!?”
And then Naruto woke up. For real this time.
