"Moshi-moshi, Mahora Girl's Junior High School teacher's office, Springfield speaking."
"Ohayou, Negi-kun. How are you doing, today?"
Negi perked on hearing that cheerful voice, and then he smiled. "Ohayou, Nabiki-san. I'm quite fine, thank you. And you?"
"Your Nihon-go is excellent as always. Still using that translation spell?"
Negi chuckled. How Tendou Nabiki had discovered his being a magister magi-in-training, he had still yet to figure out. Yet, given the possible punishment the young man from Wales faced should his abilities become general public knowledge, even Nabiki knew when to back off. Besides, the interaction between Saotome Ranma and the members of Nabiki's homeroom class had come to benefit many in Class 3-2, not just the very lucky young woman who became Ranma's wife in a civil ceremony the previous December. "Iie. I've got so used to speaking Nihon-go now that I don't need it anymore. Anyhow, I was about to head to class. Is there something wrong, Nabiki-san?"
"Oh, nothing too much . . . other than Ranma-kun's returned."
Negi perked. "Ranma-san's come back?!"
"Hai. Dad just got a postcard from Ranma-kun's father saying they're coming by to visit." A pause, and then she added, "We may have a problem, Negi-kun."
Negi blinked. "What sort of problem?"
Nabiki explained. Hearing what she had just learned from Tendou Souun, Negi's eyes went wide for a moment, and then he breathed out, "Oh, dear. That's something she won't like hearing, Nabiki-san."
"Negi, I doubt Ranma-kun knew of this last year."
An understanding nod. "Hai, I agree. Look, I'll pass it on to her right now. She'll want to know." A pause, and then he hummed as he remembered something. "Still, I don't think it should be too much of a problem, if what I understand of Japanese marriage traditions is true. After all, Ranma-san's mother is aware of the marriage. If she knew of this arrangement . . . "
"Auntie would've immediately put the breaks on what Ranma-kun had in mind," Nabiki finished. "Hai, I was thinking of the same thing. I was actually going to call her after I spoke to you. Look, I've got most of the girls' cell numbers, so I'll text a message when Ranma-kun comes to the doojou, okay?"
"Hai."
The call is soon concluded, and then Negi stepped out of the teacher's office, heading upstairs to where Class 3-2 was gathering. Stepping into the room, he nodded a greeting to the people there as they stood, following Yukihiro Ayaka's command to rise and bow respectfully to him. As he took his place behind the podium, he picked up the folder containing the pictures of everyone there, and then his eyes fell on the girl in . . .
