"I know that the girl is a talented fighter. To tell the truth, she would be quite capable and useful, if she can perfect her control and balance," sighed one voice. "But the fact is that Akane is not, and never will be, any good with domestic chores. Or a lot of the finer detail oriented work."
'I'm trying,' she mentally growled, but did recognize the speaker as someone who, while not being one of her biggest fans, did tend to be something of objective judge.
Another person seemed to blow out a breath, and as that individual began to speak, she found herself able to imagine what he looked like as he did so. "I'll give you that much. But the girl does try."
"Trying isn't enough. And to tell you the truth, she really shouldn't think that she has to bother. I mean, who expects a bodyguard or a soldier to do cooking for their master?" the first speaker asked.
"Well, if there is no one else...."
"That's just it. There should be someone else to take up the slack. If she were to have someone to match where she's lacking...."
"She could focus on what she's good at, and what the other person might not be capable with," the second person commented in a way that had her imagining the grizzled man rubbing the stubble on his chin.
"Exactly!"
"What I'm concerned about is the idea of making it seem like she was a failure, even if she has those problems, when she's not."
The first person seemed to need to make her snort as loud as possible. "Oh, come now. If it wasn't for her... handicaps, her skill would certainly make a lot of people second guess the idea of going against her. No, she's not a failure, but she could need help."
"Even free people do need support...."
"And she definitely does need that. Especially considering her Master."
"Is something wrong with him?" the male talker asked, his voice mild in its questioning.
"Not in all ways, but the boy needs socialization. And an education. Remember his father. Do you think that... man is a good role model and guide?"
"Perhaps you've taken to asking trick questions."
"Hardly."
"Ah, so do you have someone in mind?"
A raising of the brows was coming in through the sound of the woman's voice. "Perhaps. Why do you have one of your own?"
"Could be."
"Who would that be?"
Her words hung on the air like they were waiting for something to be said.
"I see...."
"Can you think of someone better?"
"No, she'll be perfect. In fact I was thinking of that one as a possible choice too."
Akane had to wonder who it was that they had in mind, as that person could join her as a slave to Ranma Saotome. That would mean that the person in question was going to be her sister slave, and they'd need to get along together. Such a relationship did have a chance of blowing up in her face, as many of the other girls had been jealous that her potion derived 'late blooming' had giving her quite a figure. Yet, there were plenty of girls who she could be paired up with, and be able to handle the situation.
So, even though she normally tried to end the periods of over sensitivity, this time she tried to strain through the pain, and heard them say the name of the girl they had chosen, who was:
