Naruto started to pay attention to Iruka calling out the team cells as the numbers grew. “-Now then, Cell 7 we have Sasuke Uchiha, Sakura Haruno and Choji Akimichi. In Cell 8 we have Shino Aburame, Hinata Hyuga, and Kiba Inuzuka. And finally, For Cell 10 we have Naruto Uzumaki, Ino Yamanaka, and Shikamaru Nara. After lunch your Jonin instructors will arrive, that is all.” With that, Iruka left the classroom and the new genin started talking among themselves about the teams.
During the lunch break Naruto and Ino left to eat lunch by themselves on the far side of the field out of earshot or sight. Naruto, once he was sure that they were alone, grabbed Ino into a hug and levitated both of them onto one of the higher tree branches. After she had bitten into her sandwich asked Naruto, “So what do you think of the team placements Naruto? I mean, it’s great that we’re together on a team but I would prefer it if we had Sasuke or Kiba on our team instead of Shikamaru.” At this Naruto moved his head to look into Ino’s green eyes and said. “What’s the matter with Shikamaru? He has sold skills and is easy to get along with.” At this Ino gave a soft smile and replied to Naruto’s inquiring face. “I know that Shikamaru has decent skills and can be a good friend. My problem is that he has no motivation!”
At this Naruto almost burst out laughing before replying telepathically. ((Now, now Ino, sometimes a lack of motivation is better than motivation. Take Sasuke for example of a case where motivation is a bad thing. He is very motivated, but it is all directed towards his obsession of killing his brother. You know of my fears that this motivation and obsession of his coupled with his arrogant pride in his heritage could be a very bad combination for Konoha.))
This last comment of Naruto stayed with Ino as she, along with Naruto and Shikamaru, meet their new sensei Asuma. Asuma had an easy-going attitude as he asked the three genins what their likes, dislikes, hobbies, and dreams were after giving them his. Shikamaru was forced to start off the questioning session and said, “I like not doing anything, I dislike things that take effort, my hobbies are sleeping in and cloud watching. My dream is to become an average ninja and have a small family.” Naruto went next and said, “I like Ramen and training with Ino, I dislike Sasuke and judgmental people, my hobby is training, my dream is to become Hokage and have a large family.” Ino went last and said, “I like flowers and my best friend, I dislike forehead girl, and my hobbies are working in my family’s flower shop and training with Naruto. My dream,” at this point Ino’s face got a little red but only Asuma and Shikamaru noticed it, “is to help Naruto achieved his dreams.”
