A different mother for Naruto: No more school, no more books… [Episode 196119]

by Historian

Naruto was quite content to be sitting at his desk on last time. He had graduated a month ago with an average score from the Ninja Academy and was waiting with the rest of his fellow graduates to hear his team assignment. While there were a good number of annoyed villagers over the fact that he had passed the exam, all those who actually knew him couldn’t have been prouder.

Sarutobi, who had given him the Shadow Clone jutsu in order for him to pass the exam, had given Naruto two new jutsus as a graduation present. Those two jutsu he had received being Shadow Clone Explosion jutsu and Shadow Kunai jutsu. Over the break, Naruto was able to combine the two into Shadow Kunai Explosion jutsu and had it ranked by Sarutobi as an A rank assassination jutsu. The reason it was ranked so high was because the Kunai didn’t explode unless they stopped moving. A small smirk came to Naruto’s face as he thought about the fact that Sasuke, the Rookie of the Year, hadn’t even invented a jutsu yet; let alone one with such a high level.

Looking around the classroom full of his fellow graduates Naruto’s eyes focused in on one genin in particular: Ino Yamanaka. Even though Ino and he had originally started training together because she was blackmailing him things had quickly changed. They had rather quickly become close to each other. It was to be expected due to the fact they were spending several hours a day several days a week together. Over time Sakura had noticed that Ino was no longer chasing after Sasuke, but only thought it was because Ino had realized that ‘true love conquers all’. Ino, who had quickly grown out of her Sasuke crush, had found that she was starting to enjoy training with Naruto. Actually it had gotten that in the past few months she had found that she just liked hanging out with Naruto.

What both Naruto and Ino didn’t realize was that their repeated use of various mind jutsus on each other had created a psychic bond between the two. Now this bond was not noticeable and it wasn’t harmful to either of them. At the bond’s current level of development it only gave the two them a vague notion of where the other was in relation to the other. Also, it let the other know if the other was in danger or in emotional distress. Both of them had found the other when they were upset and needed someone to comfort them, but they had just chalked it up to chance.

Naruto let go of his musings as he felt Iruka approach the door. Not giving away the fact that he had sensed his teacher, Naruto only turned his head to the door when others started to turn their heads as well. Iruka walked across the classroom with a sheet of paper in his hand that obviously had the team placements on them. Iruka then coughed into his fist to get everyone’s attention before he started to speak. “Today my students, no my fellow ninja of the Leaf, you make your first steps in your hopefully long and prestigious career. Remember all the lessons that I have tried to teach you and never forget that you must always learn more. If you do this and trust in your teammates you will always return home. Now without further adieu the team assignments are:”
