As the flash subsided and the narrative returned to Makoto’s apartment, Usagi broke the silence. “I didn’t do it!”
“Then who did?” Minako asked the obvious response. The nekofied Senshi and ningenized advisors looked about the not-all-that-large room seeing nothing unusual.
Then a pink blur passed over Ami, who had been busy trying to tease the Mercury Computer out of subspace without resorting to a backflip. (It wasn’t that she was embarrassed by it. It was just that, even with feline grace and self-confidence, she was fairly certain she would be unable to perform the maneuver.) As the blur passed, the Mercurycat’s eyes unfocused and she looked about the room quizzically.
“…Ami?” Artemis asked nervously.
“Miaow?”
The advisor’s eyes flicked to the cat’s forehead and, knowing what to look for, saw what he expected. “Bandage,” he said firmly.
“Huh?” Makoto tilted her head inquisitively.
“An adhesive bandage over the moon symbol,” said Luna, “or, in your cases, the planetary glyph.”
“What about it?” Haruka asked distractedly, eyes darting back and forth in search of the streak of pink.
“It’s one of the weaknesses I mentioned earlier,” explained Artemis. “If the moon symbol is damaged or obscured, the mind of a Mau’s current form will overwrite his or her own. Luna and I are relatively safe, but—”
As if to provide the “but” itself, the flash of pink zipped over the cats again, this time nailing both Haruka and Minako. Feline mentality immediately consumed both.
Seeing her lover behave in a way that was the very definition of inelegance, Michiru turned to the new humans with desperation in her eyes. “Please, do sommrrr…” The Neptunecat curled up and began to snooze, the golden trident on her forehead now covered by another bandage,
“You know,” mused Artemis, “it may be easier to have them think they’re normal cats until we can find a cure.” Luna simply glared, even if she had been thinking the same thing. The male sweatdropped and raised his hands defensively. “Kidding, kidding…”
“Kidding or not, we have to—” Makoto interrupted herself to jump over the pink blur. “Ha!” Her triumph was short lived as a grey blur passed by and tagged her. She landed gracefully and began grooming herself.
Luna sighed. She could think off only one thing pink and grey could signify. “Alright, you two. Finish up and quit playing ninja.”
Before any Senshi could ask what Luna had deduced or complain about being consigned to a fuzzy fate, a flurry of activity deposited bandages on each of them. After that, the blurs resolved themselves as Chibi-Usa and Diana. “Hi, Mom. Hi, Dad.” said the advisor-in-training, her dress nicely matching her hair.
“Sorry, Mom,” said the pink-furred moonkitten. “Special advisor-only meeting.”
“Right,” said the girl, who affixed a bandage to Chibi’s forehead before she could react.
“So,” sighed Artemis, “what’s all this about?”
“As you probably suspected,” began Diana, “Crystal Tokyo’s in an uproar. It’s gone from utopia to animal shelter. We went back to see how you guys were faring. We weren’t sure how it had effected this time.”
“Interestingly, to say the least,” Luna summarized. “Are there no other humanoids in Crystal Tokyo?”
Diana shook her head. “You, me, and Dad. Needless to say, the place is a mess.”
“Do you have any idea what caused it?”
Diana nodded. “That’s why Usa and I bandaged the others. This is really sensitive information.”
“How did you manage the blur trick, anyway?” Just because she wasn’t currently a cat didn’t mean Luna wasn’t curious.
Diana held up the Chibi Time Key. “Going back a thousand years isn’t this thing’s only power. Anyway, this all happened because
