Still, he was out at a site now, which meant that he had to make due with what he had on hand. Long experience, and a desire to eat worked to guide him past any reluctance to act. He knew that his cooking wasn't the best, but it did fill him up, and tasted good enough to make for a pleasing meal. It wasn't exactly like he was the image of martial artist as he leaned over the cookpot, but, as his father said, a martial artist needed to be ready to act on any situation.
Not that it seemed that his old man was going to show up anytime soon. To tell the truth, he wasn't sure about where his Pop was, but then, he never really bothered trying to ask. Long experience had shown him that his parent could easily be found mooching food off of a cart vendor, or sneaking a nap whenever he felt like it. And considering the fact that there were perfectly legitimate reasons as to why he hadn't seen his father for a while, he didn't particularly care about the elder Saotome male's absence.
So, he merely stirred the pot, trying to keep any of his few solid ingredients from sticking to the bottom. Burned bits tended to mess with the end taste, and he didn't want to have to stomach that sort of 'flavor'. Taking a sip from his spoon, he took a moment to consider what he was tasting before deciding that it didn't need additional spices at the moment.
What he did need though was to move as the sound of heavy footsteps turned into the surprise appearance of what looked like a human stampede. Having a healthy regard for his life, he leapt out of the way as the bulky being charged right at him. Fortunately, his attacker's momentum was on his side, as it made her continue on in her initial direction while he moved to the side. Leaping away as she turned to face him, he noted that she didn't seem to be stopping in her attacks. Rather, she was apparently focused on him, what with how he kept on leaping off to the side, and she'd go right in his direction again, causing them to make a circuit around the campsite.
Just why he had someone trying to stomp over him, he didn't know. By what he could remember, he hadn't done anything lately that could even make anyone annoyed with him. Yet, it was clear that she was intent on doing something to him, and so, when her charges failed, she started swiping at him, making him duck and weave around her thrusts. Fighting defensively wasn't quite the stuff of legend, but he didn't know what he was facing, or why, but he did know that he needed to get some information quickly.
But it was easy to see that she was female, since her firm breasts bounced entirely too hard for anyone to make a mistake on that front. Then there was her waist, which was tight and narrow, and her taut buttocks, which led into what would normally be a pair of rather nicely shaped legs. However, she was also bearing a tail and horns, both of which he knew did not belong on a human, even one that might have had the sort of body that one showed on a fitness magazine cover otherwise.
Yet, he didn't have the time to be analyzing her almost odd attractiveness. Instead, he had to do a sizable backwards leap, complete with flip, as he jumped up to a tree branch in time to avoid having her slam both her hands onto his head. She moved to follow him on the ground... only to stop and look down as her feet came close to the fire. Moving her head from side to side as if she was trying to get every image that she could of the cook fire, she knelt down, and took a long sniff at it. Seeming to find it appealing, she reached out a hand to grab at the pot, but flinched back when she felt the heat.
"She came ta steal my food?" Ranma muttered under his breath, his wide eyed look an expression of disbelief as he shook his head in refusal. "Nah, ain't any way that I'm gonna let some blind chargin'... girl thing go and grab my meal that easy."
This time, with purpose and solid information, he leapt back down, while:
