The Professor, on the other hand, was trying to determine something entirely different with a laptop computer and only vague interest in the conversation going on.
"I believe that objectives can be met within a reasonable time frame, oh that's odd." Ranma had broken off the dinner conversation, cocking his head to the side as if listening to a voice neither of his companions could hear.
"That's interesting," said Ranma, blinking once as he stood.
"What was interesting?" asked Soichiro Tomoe.
"Neutrino emission patterns falling, muon and gluon burst, the pattern was familiar." Ranma closed his eyes briefly. "Unsuccessful though."
"Big brother? What's going on?" asked Hotaru.
"Someone has apparently unearthed a Stargate and just attempted to use it, but they didn't quite manage to activate it," answered Ranma. "Probably just hitting random coordinates, though the muon levels indicate the DHD wasn't used. I wonder why."
"Ach," said the Professor, staring at a screen on his laptop.

"That doesn't look like the right site," said Hotaru, after leaning over to see what her Papa was up to.
"Obviously a challenge has been laid down before me," said Professor Tomoe, a gleam appearing in his glasses.
"Switch on!"
"Field stable."
"Bringing power up."
"Tanstaffel universe running. Looks good."
"Waitaminute. Instability in containment field, activating dampers."
"No good. What IS that? What's producing that spike?"
"It's..."
