"Of course I was spying on you," said Kagura. "I think Naraku would be interested in this changing situation, don't you?"
Vummmmmmmmmmmmmmm went a sword underneath Kagura's chin.
Kagura looked up the length of that sword to observe Sango's impassive face. Yes, this was a different Sango - one whose cold expression promised no remorse if the blade were forced to move just a finger's span.
"Again, Kagura, I ask you to speak. This time, be more mindful of your words," said Kagome.
Inuyasha blinked at this. Kagome seemed to have a harder edge than before.
Kagura's eyes narrowed. "Fine. I have to say it? I want free of Naraku. I'll do anything necessary for that freedom."
"We may be able to work a deal then," said Sango.
Naraku's head snapped up. "Kagura's dead? Kanna."
Kanna stepped forth, her mirror held out. Mists briefly swirled on the surface before revealing Inuyasha's group. Sango shoved Kagura's limp body into a grave, which Kagome began filling in.
Naraku watched until the grave was completely filled, his frown indicating disssatisfaction with the whole procedure. "Something is wrong with this."
Kanna didn't answer that.
In the mirror, the group moved on, leaving the unmarked grave behind them.
"Kagura's dead," repeated Naraku. "Well, she's gotten the freedom she wanted - in the only way she could get it. Well then. I'll have to come up with a different spy to use."
Sango closed her eyes briefly, apparently listening to something for a few moments before she spoke. "The eye has turned away."
"Is it okay to leave her buried like that?" asked Inuyasha.
"She'll be fine, her life signs are nearly at a standstill," said Sango.
Miroku blinked at this unexpected event. "She's..."
"Possibly," agreed Sango. "She would provide the possibility of hanyo children."
"That has advantages and disadvantages," said Kagome quietly.
"Can we talk about some other subject?" asked a very uncomfortable Inuyasha.
