Great Will: Duke Duke Duke, Duke of Earl, Duke Duke [Episode 198829]

by Kestral

Ranma began noticing some of the other little details that had been bugging him since the last time that the Great Will had been used.

First off, there was the fact that his foolish father was no longer wearing his standard "washing it once a month was good enough" gi. This looked freshly laundered, frequently sewn back together, and had some kind of heraldic symbol on the back.

There were also literal signs that were different. An inverted "L" shaped holder with a piece of cloth hanging from the horizontal segment acting as a banner. That was frequently seen and...

"GENMA! You old badger! How's it hanging?"

Ranma stopped in mid-stride at this newest development.

The guy who had hailed his father was shorter and slightly built, looking somewhat like a schoolteacher or something. He was flanked by two women who looked like martial artists of some kind.

"Duke Niigawa, may I present my son, Ranma Saotome," said Genma.

"Yo," said Ranma, not sure what to do or where this was coming from.

"Duke Niigawa is the Duke of Nerima, just as I am Duke of Juuban," said Genma, clearly addressing Ranma.

"Oh, uhm, sorry," said Ranma, bowing. Where had THIS come from?

"So, what brings you into my area, Saotome?" asked Niigawa.

"Arrangement with Tendo, one of your elite trainers in martial arts skills," said Genma.

"Who?" asked Niigawa, apparently trying to remember.

"Soun Tendo, Anything Goes School," provided one of the women bodyguards.

"Oh yes, him," said Niigawa, nodding his head at the retainer. "Where are your own retainers, Saotome? I'd expect a few."

"Boy?" asked Genma.

"Yeah, Pop?" asked Ranma, wondering what they were talking about. Retainers? Like Sasuke was Kuno's retainer?

"Call your retainers," said Genma, showing a little impatience. At Ranma's hesitation, that impatience showed a little more. "I know you don't like making a show about it, but it's only polite."

Ranma was a little put out by his father, of all people, worrying about politeness. "Yeah, well..."

"Just snap your fingers and get it over with," said Genma, turning back to Duke Niigawa. "Sorry. The boy makes a big deal about being self-sufficient and it's best for his training if he doesn't rely on them."

Ranma held his hand up, then snapped his fingers.
