Mahado, former priest of Pharaoh and now a Shadow Monster, approached an empty area of the Shadow Realm with a slight trepidation in his heart. Not much could put fear in Mahado's heart; his fights as the Dark Magician and his other forms had made Mahado's bravery known to all the Shadow Monsters. However, the three gods of the Shadow Realm were on a level above Mahado's strongest form and they were the ones who had summoned him to this spot.
Seeing that there was no one around him, Mahado got on his knees and humbly uttered, "Oh great gods of the Shadow Realm, I have come. Please Obelisk the Tormentor, Slifer the Sky Dragon, and The Winged Dragon of Ra tell me what it is that you ask of me."
The area around Mahado was quiet for a few minutes causing Mahado to wonder if he had done something to offend the gods. Then Mahado felt the overwhelming presence of the three gods. The power that rolled off of them seemed in Mahado's mind to threaten to flatten him. While crouching on the ground due to the power, Mahado barely managed to turn his eyes up to look at the leader of the three gods: The Winged Dragon of Ra.
The golden god then opened its mouth and said in a booming voice, "Mahado, faithful servant of my son Pharaoh, tales of your deeds in battle and loyalty to my son have reach even our ears. Your power and skill are unmatched among the mortal monsters, this pleases us."
Mahado almost blushed from what he heard Ra say. It is not often that someone is praised by the gods. However Mahado figured that the gods did not just call him here to bestow praise upon him.
His assumptions proved correct when Obelisk started to speak, "Know this oh Magician, we gods of the Shadow Realm are in need of your service. A growing darkness threatens a neighboring world with destruction the likes of which were not seen since Zoric threatened Kemet."
This news worried Mahado's heart. He knew that the Shadow Realm was connected to all mortal worlds. If one of those worlds should be destroyed or fall into darkness, the delicate balance of the Shadow Realm would be destroyed resulting in chaos throughout all the known realms. Still, why would the gods bother to tell a mortal Shadow Monster like him such news?
Mahado's question was soon answered by Slifer. "We have decided Mahado, that you are to take care of this problem for us. You are to be reborn in the world threatened. There your reincarnation, armed with your power and knowledge, shall take care of the threat to that world. So it is decreed, so it shall be done!"
