A ten-year old Naruto was dodging an ANBU tem, because of his latest prank. After losing his pursuer, he quickly headed outside Konoha to figure out what else to do with his spare time, since classes weren't in session at the moment. Naruto looked up at the stone faces of the Hokage monument and shook his head.
"Maybe, I can decorate that later," Naruto thought to himself.
He was about to head back inside, when he heard a sharp crack and saw what looked like a tear in the air form in the air. Being a curious boy, he quickly headed towards it and saw a bald man stagger out of the rip in the sky. The man was dressed oddly. He was wearing white leggings that stopped several inches above his ankles. He also wore a white tunic that was held together by a red belt. The man was wearing no footwear at all and there was a symbol on his forehead. Naruto spotted the man had what at first glance looked like a tattoo of a dragon on his left forearm and a tiger on his right. A closer look revealed they were healed burn marks. The man was also carrying a large box with him. And was panting and coughing up a bit of blood.
"Are you all right?" Naruto asked the strange man.
The man shook his head and stared at Naruto. "I'm dying. You will have to do."
""I'm sure if we can get a medi-nin to you, that you'll pull through," Naruto said.
"No. I took a hit from a poisoned blade. I know of no cure," The man said coughing.
"Who are you?"
"I am or was a monk at the Shaolin Temple," the man said.
"I have never heard of this temple you say you are from," Naruto said slowly.
"I used a sealed art to open a hole from one world to another," the man rasped out and shoved the box he was carrying into Naruto's hands. "My mission was to make sure our teachings weren't lost forever. Take the box. The scrolls within have all the teachings of the Shaolin Monks. Learn from them. Master them. Teach those you can fully trust. I can see in your aura that you are a good person, despite the burden you carry."
"What burden?" Naruto asked.
"You do not know? Even more proof that you will do the right thing with the teachings," the monk said, as he slumped to the ground. "Come here."
Naruto slowly approached the monk and the man reached up and placed his fingers on Naruto's forehead. A sudden flare of energy passed between the two and Naruto felt a bit fuzzy headed."
"I have given you the ability to understand the language that the scrolls were written in," the monk said, wheezing heavily. "Do not mourn for me. I have done my duty."
Naruto watched in shock as the monk went prone and closed his eyes. Soon the body and clothes that the monk was wearing crumpled into dust that was caught by the wind and blown away. The only thing that showed the monk was there was the box he had given Naruto and the red belt he had been wearing. Naruto picked up the red belt and stared at it.
"What burden do I carry?" Naruto muttered, as he quickly headed back to his apartment.
Once home, Naruto opened the box and his eyes bugged out at what he was seeing.
"These are Taijutsu and Ninjutsu techniques," Naruto muttered in shock. "Some of these I have never heard of. The ability to walk through stone walls like it was air?"
Naruto quickly realized the box could hold a lot more than its size suggested and found the technique that was used in creating it. He also found the tests for the Shaolin Monks and gave a snort as he realized that the burn marks on the monk's arms were from the final test from where he had to move an iron cauldron filled with boiling oil aside to continue on. The burn marks were created from the iron cauldron.
After reading for about an hour more, Naruto shook his head. "These Shaolin also wrote down secret smithing techniques and how to create weapons and how to learn techniques from watching animals. I'll have to find a tiger and observe it to finish off this tiger group of Taijutsu. I still have no idea why anyone would want to watch a drunken stork. I'm going to need a double bladed sword for some of these styles. I wonder why they keep calling Chakra by the name chi though."
Naruto's eyes gleamed. "Whoever you were, I will do my best to master what you have given me and I hope to fulfil your last request."
Naruto looked at the red belt and rubbed it between his fingers and he felt his stomach turn. "First time I saw someone die. But that was not normal."
