Darkfire: Nagabiki's Quest [Episode 20022]

"Nabiki..." Kasumi fretted. "Are you sure you want to go through with this? It could be dangerous, after all."

"Obviously," Nabiki said definately. She had, by calling in a few debts, managed to prepare for the journey she had volunteered to undertake. She now wore traveller's clothes (carefully adapted to her new snake body), carried a few lightweight weapons on her back, and a backpack full of several weeks' worth of rations, a sleeping bag, and other survival gear. "But I've gotta go after him. I mean, without him, the money I'd make from Kuno would be halved!"

Akane smiled hiddenly. She knew that Nabiki was trying hard to make it seem like she didn't care, but inwardly Akane thought she was actually conerned about Ranma... and, in some kind of warped way, blamed herself for it. "At least let me come with you. He's my fiancée after all. And you're not a fighter, Nabiki."

"Actually, I think I'll handle myself pretty well with this new adaptation," Nabiki said with a grin, smacking her snake tail against the ground playfully. "Did you know that it's actually venemous? Guess Mariko was pretty incompetent when picking her poisons after all."

"But still..." Akane insisted.

"Hey, don't worry," Nabiki said, trying to be reassuring. "Besides, I'll have help."

"Really?" Akane asked, curious. "Who?"

Nabiki smiled, channelling a certain Mazoku. "That... is a secret."

• After leaving, Nabiki goes over to the Kitsune Beauty agency. Being recognized as a "former customer", she is quickly granted entrance.

  "I know the location of the rogue agent," she tells Fillia. "In exchange, I want you to help me out."

• Nabiki knocks on the Kuno family door.

  Tatewaki greets her. "Gah! It is a snake demon with the face of fair Nabiki! Away, monster!"

  "Kuno, it's me," Nabiki greated dryly.

  "It speaks!"

  "Listen, pig-tailed girl's in trouble. Want to help me find her?" Nabiki offered.

• The angelic Mariko oppened the door, only to have Nabiki shove a court document and a travelling pack into her hands. "This is a lawsuit, from me for public humilition and armed assault, and from Kitsune Beauty, for theft from the company and misrepresentation. Come help me find Ranma, and it'll all go away. Otherwise..." Nabiki shook her head insinuatingly.
• Nabiki recruits someone else. "Hey, remember that favor you owe me..."
• A week later, Nabiki turned up on the Tendo's front porch, bloody and barely breathing.
