Crimson Nights: Paperwork is a B!tch [Episode 201221]

by The Insane Hiker

Reports, if there was one thing that Akane (as well as every normal agent of the MLA) hated it was filing in the post-patrol reports, especially tonight’s... well last night’s technically since it was now six twenty-three in the morning. How was she to explain the odd occurrences such as an unknown type of lune (or possibly some strange mutt) first playing with some kittens, and then disappearing, not to mention the mysterious wall of fire that appeared out of nowhere.

Although she knew that she would hate herself for it she decided to write the mystery lune off as a stray Akita-mix and go with just reporting the fire, besides forensics could later have a look at the scorched-grass at the seen for signs of accelerants, besides the locker-rooms were carefully monitored to make sure that no agent could smuggle in any solid silver-bullets for the two-shot rifle each team was issued, as opposed to the alloy rounds that they were supposed to use that only had a trace amount of silver in the mix.

She was just about to finish up when Yuka walked up to the desk, “Akane I have the info on the three perps that the four of you pulled in at the park last night.”

“Great Yuka,” Akane smiled at her friend, school-mate, and co-worker, “Nice new hand by the way.”

‘Oh this,” Yuka said bringing forward the stainless-steel claw, “I know it looks a little ungainly, but at least it’s better then that hook that they gave me at first.”

“As for the three you and Kodachi’s teams pulled in, the one you brought in happened to be Tobimaru Mizunokoji.”

“Wait,” Akane said her eyes slightly bulging at the mention of that name, “Isn’t that the heir to the Mizunokoji Sporting Goods Conglomerate?”

“Yup,” Yuka smiled, “Apparently he and his girl friend, one Ms. Yukiki Seishin, (who was the one that Akira brought in) fell asleep in the park after a make-out session. He says he hopes he didn’t hurt anyone, but would like it if we would call his body-guards and not his parents.”

“Why’s that?”

“Apparently his mother disapproves of his choice in girlfriend’s,” Yuka risked busting a gut, “And he doesn’t want to risk his father accidently telling his mother.”

“Wary of a potential gold digger?”

“Nope, she it might just be that she isn’t exactly the shy and demure maiden type. When she came to her senses after changing back she actually asked the officer on cage duty if he enjoyed the floorshow.”

“Flirting with a MLA cage-guard,” Akane said semi-aghast, “Man that must have had her beau green with envy!”

“Nope,” Yuka stated with a smile, “Actually it calmed him down a bit, he came to first and was a little on the hysterical side.”

“And what about the brainiac that managed to land in the poison oak?” the youngest of the Tendo’s inquired, “Any news on who he was?”

“Yep,” Yuka said showing Akane a folder, “His name is Shoji Daijo, he’s one of those wino’s that winds up in coming either in here or at one of the south branch about every full moon. A caseworker from the Department of Social Services should be by for him in the next hour or two.”

“So any ideas on what to do after school tomorrow?” Akane asked hoping to have a conversation about something other than work.

“Well remember that old vacant shopping strip near the large abandoned lot, about ten blocks from the school?”

“The one where all that all that demolition work was a few weeks back?” Akane inquired. “Yep,” Yuka stated, “Well Sayuri has a relative on the city planning board, and she told me that the area is being turned into a picnic park, and yatai area.”

“Oh great,” Akane groaned, “Yet another place for loose lunes to hide on full moons!”

“Not exactly,” Yuka stated clearly, “The trees there are only transported saplings and are pretty spread out, also no bushes or shrubs, plus I think that they kept the underground shelter from behind the old shopping strip.”

“We’ll see Yuka,” Akane sighed, “To be honest I just want to file these reports so I can go home, and get some sleep. I don’t know how mom handled this every month without going crazy.”

“From what I heard she may have been a little,” Yuka grinned like the cat who got the canary, “Word among the old brass is that her nickname on the force was Jigoku Koneko.”

“People called mom Hell Kitty!?!” Akane starred at her friend in disbelief, “Seriously!?!”

“Yep,” Yuka smiled at Akane, “Apparently she earned it when she was just a little older than us by bringing in a furred up sumo who had somehow broken out of his stables shelter.”

“Mom did that,” to say Akane was amazed was an understatement, “Maybe I should ask Kasumi when I get home.” ‘If I stay awake that long.’

“Yeah,” the short-haired girl commented, “Chief Matsumoto, told me when he gave me the file on Daijo to give you, he said that she really mellowed after getting married. Speaking of which when will you have those reports ready?”

“I’m almost done Yuka,” Akane waved her friend down, “Tell the big-guy that I’ll have the reports on his desk in fifteen.”

“Okay,” Yuka said before she walked off, “See you tomorrow at school.”

Half an hour later Akane was bleerly walking home as her fourth cup of coffee showing signs of wearing off, and 26 hours straight without sleep was beginning to take its toll. She kept walking ignoring the inflammatory and profane graffiti which decorated the retaining wall of the Ministry of Lunar Affairs Northern Tokyo branch in Shinjuku as she made her way to the Takadanobaba Station and used her government railpass to get a ticket on the Seibu Shinjuku line home.

She waited the half an hour for the train to make it’s way to the Mushashi-Seki Station and tried not to fall asleep least she suffer from the wandering hands of one of the etchi-salarymen or college-students known to frequent the lines at this time of day. Somehow she remained lucid as she got off the train, and made her way back home.

She returned to the Tendo dojo and almost roboticly went on took off her shoes, barely acknowledging Kasumi’s ever cheerful, “Welcome home Akane.”

She trudged up the stairs at an even pace, and instinctively made her way to her bedroom. After shucking off her work clothes on the floor she quickly put on a set of pajamas that she had laid out the previous evening, and after a horrible 28 hours of separation Akane was reunited with her bed, “ello frend.” Were the last words the poured from her lips before she drifted off to the realm of Morpheus.
