"All right class, take your seats," said the teacher, moving into the room and facing yet another day of academia for the moderately inspired. "We've got... what the frak?"
There was his class, except not everyone was in uniform. Most everyone was the typical sort of student he'd been seeing every day since taking the job fifteen years ago.
Some were clearly not.
"You're out of uniform, Miss..." the teacher's voice trailed off as he noted there was only a first name for that student. "Hotaru?"
"They're still modifying my uniform, sensei," said the girl, looking terribly embarassed. Her wings smoothly moved around until she was almost concealed from view.
"Errr," said the teacher.
"Sir," said someone else, standing up. "We decided she should be in the back of the room because her wings might otherwise block the view of those behind her."
"I'm sorry," apologized the girl, now completely hidden from view by her own wings.
"Uhm," said the teacher. "Okay, maybe I should have read the handouts before hand. They're always the same thing though."
"I'd wager not this time," said one of the girls in the front.
"I wouldn't accept that wager now," said the teacher drily, going over the notes and finding something extra in there on the unusual student. "Hmmmm? An 'Angel pokegirl' - telekinesis, flight, healing abilities. Please place near a window or the door in case of claustrophobic episodes?"
"It's okay, Hotaru," said one of the girls. "You can do it."
"Yeah! Ganbatte, Hotaru!" said one of the boys.
"Th-thank you," said the girl hidden by her wings.
Hyuuga-sensei merely blinked and wondered what had happened to his normal routine.
Having actually READ the paperwork, Sakurada Haruna knew what she was getting into. Most of the class was composed of perfectly normal students. One had a note in her ledger as being the sort who was known to smoke, but that was about as different as any of the regular group got.
Now that she was facing the class, and had them reading a chapter, she could look at the not-so-average members of her class and associate the faces with the notes.
Ami was in the left/front seat. She was expected to do very well academically. A 'Nerdette' - with the ability to learn things rapidly and innate skills dealing with electronics and mechanics. She looked very human, though the blue tracery under her skin on her hands had a vaguely 'circuit board' look to it. According to the notes, she should not do anything about Ami possibly reading things unrelated to the class objectives as long as she could keep up in the subject being taught.
Two back was Usagi, listed as a 'Megami' - and the notes indicated a different approach as the girl had problems with being late and some sort of attention-deficit. She might have to be a bit more strict with her.
On the far right/front near the windows was Makoto. The notes said she was a 'Dryad' and might get lethargic in shadow or on rainy days. Though apparently she was fairly athletic and skilled in physical activities and was very interested in gardening.
Two back, Minako was one of the more obviously not-quite-human as she had ears and a tail and was not wearing the normal indoor-shoes required. The notes indicated she might have a tendency to nap, which might be an actual physical requirement as opposed to something that could be forced to change. She'd have to observe and determine if that was correct apparently. There also might be problems with her attention-span, just as there were with Usagi.
Directly behind Minako was Ranma. Martial artist of unusual skill, but academically only average. Notes indicated that he was actually believed to be of above-average intelligence as he was able to eke out an average-level performance academically despite spending almost every waking hour devoted to perfecting martial arts skills.
She had the bulk of the 'pokegirls' in her class, Haruna noted. Hyuuga had one in his class, there were two in Fujisawa's class with Nabiki Tendo, and one apparently was old enough for first year high school and attending with Kasumi Tendo.
Miss Haruna glanced over. Also attending her class was the youngest of the Tendo girls, Akane - who was sitting nearest to Makoto.
Haruna sniffed the air as a scent made itself known to her. Pine? Fresh pine needles, evocative of some of the forest trails she'd walked when SHE had attended high school. A moment's contemplation took in the breeze and her eyes tracked to Makoto's seat where the girl's lips were moving as she puzzled out a passage in the book. Okay, THAT might be a little distracting.
