Those who could call upon one element were the next level up. Able to call upon the power of one element without a manifestation, they were called different things depending on which society they were in. In Japan, they were called Shukenja.
Those who could manifest a fury, an elemental force with its own will and to some degree intelligence, was a Summoner. Typically these were slightly higher on the hierarchy than Shukenja but not much further.
Knights, able to do a Manifestation and having access to TWO elements were much rarer. It was the various Knights who had the job of being the military might - as well as the backbone of industry. Major access to one element, minor in at least one other.
