Of course being born in Japan just made it worse, here there weren’t separate schools for children who were considered future MLA employees, they were just sent into the regular Japanese school system with everyone else. Of course they did have one special privilege (although in reality it was a restriction) they were prohibited from joining in any extra-curricular activities after primary school whose schedules might conflict with their vocational training. In other words clubs with stricter after-school schedules like the athletic clubs were off limits; which of course stunk for Akane after all she loved being a part of the girl’s softball club in Primary School.
But of course that was just a secondary concern, the main problem was the kendo club, or rather the before school activity that their captain Tatewaki Kuno had taken it upon himself to perform. The activity in question was ridding Furinkan High School of undesirable elements while this cut down on the number of bancho and urban lead gangs in school, unfortunately his efforts to purify Furinkan also extended to other unwanted elements such as burakumin, gaijin, and hagejuhin (bald-pelts).
“Be gone abominations for although the misguided bureaucrats of this school tolerate your odious presence I, Tatewaki Kuno the Blue Thunder of Furinkan High School age 17, will not tolerate your presence.” The wannabe-samurai proclaimed as he boldly thrust his bokuto toward the offenders.
“Kuno why do we have to go through this farce every-morning,” Akane sighed “or do you and your boy’s club just really like spending first-period in the nurse’s office.”
“Never, the sun may tire after a mere day in the sky, but the Blue Thunder of Furinkan High will never cease in his quest to rid these noble halls of miscreants and abominations.” Kuno again proclaimed, “And though your demonic breed have woven a spell over these sacred lands forbidding we normal beings from freely roaming under the grand majesty of Tsukiyomi as we were meant to. To this I say… *THUUDD*
Fortunately for the collective sanity of everyone present Kuno’s diatribe was silenced when two strangers landed feet-first on his head planting him face-down in the ground, before dashing inside. While Akane was mildly perturbed that someone else had effectively fought her fight for her, she wasn’t about to look a gift horse in the mouth.
“Come on Yuka, let’s go!” Akane said as she grabbed the hand of her co-worker as they dashed inside, and over the prostrated form of the Kendo Team’s Captain whose fellow kendoists just stood idly by.
A few minutes later and Akane and Yuka walked into their classroom (early for once) and sat down next to their old friend Sayuri who immediately began to strike-up a conversation, “So Akane about that trip to the new open air food court…”
“Sorry Sayuri I can’t go,” Akane sighed, “apparently some old friend of my dads will be coming by our house with his son to discuss an arranged marriage, so of course I have to be home. As if guy traditional enough to go along with an arranged marriage would choose a government wage slave to be, over a domestic like Kasumi or the school’s heir.”
“Come-on Akane,” Sayuri said patting her friend’s shoulder, “you never know; after all he might take a fancy to you.”
“Sayuri, please don’t try to get my hopes up, it’s only making it worse.” Akane sighed as she trudged over Kuno’s unconscious form, and lead her group into the torment that was Furinkan High School.
Surprisingly Hakudoshi-sensei was running late for home room, and the effect on the Classroom 1-F showed such as with Hiroshi and Daisuke making comments on the latest dirty magazine that Daisuke managed to borrow from his elder brother’s stash. Still the fun was not to last as twenty-minutes after the bell their teacher entered followed by someone that Akane was certain was one of the two strangers that accidently KO’ed Kuno earlier.
“Class as of today we have a new student,” their homeroom teacher began to drone in his usual manner, “this is Ranma Saotome, she and her family have recently moved to Nerima.”
“Hello, I am Ranma Saotome pleased to meet you all.” The slightly exotic redhead said as she smiled and bowed seemingly oblivious to the ogling stares of her the boys in her new class.
“Thank you Ms. Saotome now I believe that seat 11 in the back is empty, so please take your seat.” Hakudoshi paused for a moment to adjust his glasses to be sure of what he spied a minute ago, as Ranma took her seat next to the window and spoke in a even voice with a hint of malice, “Mr. Honda what did I say the last time I caught you bringing one of those magazine to school?”
Daisuke’s voice quivered with a mixture of embarrassment, “Th-that you’d make me, ch- choose between a month’s detention steadying the punching bag for Kuma in the Boxing Club, a month spotting the tackling dummy for Chibi in the Rugby Club, or reading three letters from the magazine I brought in front of the entire class.”
“Um, sensei since Saigawa-chan, isn’t here can I put off reading this until tomorrow,” Daisuke said hoping and praying that his stay of execution by way of public embarrassment would fly.
Unfortunately it was not to be as the girl in question walked into the class-room huffing, “Sorry for being late sensei, Ayumi sprained her ankle during morning practice and needed to be taken to the nurse’s office.”
“It’s perfectly alright Ms. Saigawa,” Hakudoshi-sensei said with a slight smile, “now please be seated young Mister Honda was about to read something for the class.”
As Yuri Saigawa went to her seat Daisuke began stumbling forward like he was walking the green mile, which it felt like since a hot foreign-looking girl just joined their class and didn’t know his reputation. I was aboutto ask her if she wanted someone to show her around town too.
Crying on the inside Daisuke flipped open the copy of Tokyo Tenshi and began to read the first letter, “Sore in Sapporo writes…”
