“Make your father proud and learn the catfist, boy!” His father’s shout still ranged in his ears as the cover slammed down over the pit.
Ranma laid there for a moment, confused about what it is he should be doing or learning. Struggling, he managed to sit up. He tried to look around, but it was too dark to see anything. He couldn’t see himself, a bunch of slumbering cats, nor a black cat observing him with hungry eyes. Suddenly, a brilliant spotlight shone down from above, lighting a small circle on the floor. Into this circle strode a black cat, who was oddly enough wearing a tuxedo. Rearing up on its hind legs, the cat swiped a paw through the air, grabbing a microphone stand that was not there a moment before.
He tapped the microphone a couple of times. “Excuse me, is this thing on?”
“You can talk?!” Ranma’s eyes shot wide open as his jaw dropped.
“Wow! So can you. That makes two of us.” However, Toltiir’s brand of sarcasm was lost on the astounded boy. “Well, Ranma, I am sure you are wondering why I am here.”
Ranma shook his head. “Nope.”
“How I got here?”
“Naw-aw.” Ranma again shook his head in the negative.
“Why I’m wearing a tuxedo?”
“What’s a tuxedo?”
Toltiir’s left eye twitched. “OK, listen kid. I’m here to offer you a once in a lifetime, nevah gonna ask you again, opportunity. If you agree, I’ll invest a part of me into you. How does that sound, Ranma-Me-Boy?”
“What’s invest mean?” Ranma asked in childlike innocence.
“It means, I’ll put you in touch with your inner cat, so to say. And I’ll be that inner cat. Come on, think of all the neato stuff I can teach you. We’ll have lots and lots of fun, cat’s honor.”
“Teach me? Papa did say to learn the cat-something. This must be what he meant.” Ranma did not give it much thought, Genma hadn’t encouraged Ranma to think all that much. “OK, lets do this for Papa! But, I'm all tied up. How can I learn a new move?”
“Trust me, Ranma,” Toltiir paused to give a wicked grin, “that won’t be a problem.” Toltiir then faded away as his spotlight dimmed. However, Ranma could still hear the cat’s voice. “For our first lesson, how about we...
