Bunny wanted to hit herself with that stick. She'd just struck an eevee! Rare and cute. It didn't want to hurt her, and now she'd frightened it...
Bunny did what came natural to her. She began crying again.
The eevee winced at the noise. Damn, but she had some lungs! Well, at least she was contrite about hitting him. Maybe a gesture of good faith would calm her down. "Eevee?" he called softly, putting his forepaws on her leg.
Sniffling, Bunny looked at the eevee.
He smiled.
"Y... you're not mad at me?"
"Eevee!"
"Th... thank you."
After a few moments, the eevee looked up at her and chirped a question. "Ve?"
Suddenly he found himself in a death grip! He quickly realized that she was only hugging him, but those first few moments were a bit too tight.
"I'msorryI'msorryIdidn'twanttohurtyouIjustsoscaredandhungryandaloneandeverythingsgonesoWRONG!" Bunny babbled.
"Ee? Eevee ve ve ee ve eevee." The eevee called, trying to coax the girl to continue talking. And maybe let him breath just a bit more.
It took a while, but the eevee got the idea soon enough. It was a little shocking to hear of what that clefairy had done. Sure, clefairy tended to be kleptomaniacs, but to run off from the girl in the middle of nowhere with her provisions smacked of deliberate malice.
It was also obvious that this girl needed to be watched. She was kind and generous to a fault, and more than a little naive. If someone with common sense wasn't around, she'd just keep getting into trouble.
And there was something else, too. Something that just seemed to scream to him that this girl was special...
Eventually, the long day and emotional stress took its toll. Bunny curled up beneath a tree and slept. Eevee climbed into her lap to rest. Yes, strange though it was, it was the start of a beautiful friendship.
Little did either know of what adventures awaited them...
