People had stopped avoiding Nabiki as her skin and body appeared to start changing back. The idea that the problem was a family related allergy or illness had been mostly accepted.
Of course, that was an illusion.
If most could see what Akane could see, they'd have done more than just avoid Nabiki and Akane.
Nabiki winked as she passed Akane in the halls, small wings folded against her back, and the long, forked tail wrapped around one leg like some sort of anklet. A brief moment from that tail, something that would be taken as a strong breeze by anybody else, pushed up her skirt momentarily giving a flash of her underwear.
Akane simply rolled her eyes, but she could feel Ranma's flustered emotions behind her and was eager for her own tail to grow out so she could have given him a like show in response.
"So does it hurt any?" Yuka asked nervously as they entered the class room.
"No," Akane said. "It just feels a little weird. I keep seeing my skin and think I have a sunburn, but..."
"Saotome!" a voice declared loudly as the senior lunatic of the school burst in on the conversation.
Akane, her friends and Ranma, (his friends lingering far back almost as red as Akane after catching sight of Nabiki's flash) jumped away from the sudden appearance, each wondering how Kuno managed that stealth every so often.
"As previously discussed, I Kuno Tachiko bring you an official challenge from myself," she thrust an sealed envelope marked with fanciful calligraphy out towards Ranma. "As desired, I have spoken to my twin..."
"Younger," Ranma interrupted blandly.
"TWIN," Kuno repeated fervantly, "...sister and she is willing to act as my partner provided, upon your defeat, that you officially become her fiance. The battle is to take place in one week...prepare yourself. And in the unlikely occurrence that we should lose, then we will accept your mastery."
"But...I haven't asked..." Ranma started to say only to find himself cut off.
"Class will begin soon," Tachiko declared loudly. "Saotome, I suggest you quit dawdling and drawing all these other students to tardiness, the Blue Thunder leaves for her class now."
"But!" Ranma tried. "Arrgg, what the hell is with her?"
