Never before had Ranma ever felt quite so relieved upon having a train come to a stop at a platform. It meant that he could continue onward, and deal with other matters, rather than just dwelling on how things had changed. If he had to stay longer, he would have likely found himself peeking at what other... 'promises' he'd made, and he had a feeling that he might not want to know what they were. After all, he was pretty sure that they'd come to bite him on the backside soon enough.
In the mean time, his father was perfectly able to burst through the mood. "Are you just going to stand there, boy?"
"Huh? What are ya goin' on 'bout, Pop," Ranma growled as he stepped off the train to go after his parent.
"You do realize that if you had stayed on much longer, the train would have taken you to the next station."
"Ah.... Oh. Well... I wouldn't have taken that long."
"Right. Remember, pay attention to what's around you," Genma admonished with a long suffering sigh. "You'd think that you'd be as easily distracted as a girl."
"Hey!"
"The ninja go with you, boy. And that would mean that they were going to miss the stop too."
"Humph. Stop makin' stupid comments, old man. It ain't like that happened. And we've got things ta do other than ta hear ya squawk," Ranma groused.
"He never learns."
The pigtailed boy snorted at that, but did admit to himself that he had to keep from brooding like that. As it was, he already had enough that was likely to crash into his life, and he didn't need to borrow trouble. He just hoped that whatever was coming was going to be nice enough.
Stares followed the girl as she left the school building, but one only had to look at her to see why that could be. Her uniform should have looked out of place at best, what with the boy's uniform jacket on top, and the pleated skirt on the bottom. However, it only accentuated her beauty, with the tight tailoring of the jacket pulled across her full cleavage without a wrinkle, oddly complimenting her skirt. Long, smooth legs toned by years of exercise were shown off rather nicely, with her socks perfectly lined up to match. A shining curtain of long brunette hair hung like silk from her head, and her features were lovely and strong.
"Oh, wow!" cried out one girl. "It's her!"
An admirer clasped her hands together and sighed dramatically. "She is just so cool!"
"She is so much better than a lot of the boys around here!" happily murmured another girl, her chin length hair perfectly framing the dreamy expression on her face.
"We got to see her!" cheered one group of female students.
A squeal of delight came from another set of girls. "If only we could be her 'little sister'!"
That just set off another set of gasps of excitement, and rapid fire talking and giggles of pleasure took over the talk around the school yard.
It took a lot of effort for Ukyo Kuonji to not hang her head and sigh, although she really wanted to. She really wasn't interested in other girls, but, if the looks sent her way, and the love letters left in her locker were any indication, that hadn't been noticed by her classmates. To them, she was a 'sporty and cool idol', which she wasn't such a surprise when she thought about out. Aiming to be a strong girl had been something that she'd been working on for years, and she was rather proud of how she'd turned out.
But it had been for one boy that she'd become this self assured and strong young woman. Back when they'd been children, he'd claimed that he couldn't really tell that she was female, and she'd wanted to prove him wrong. Well, she'd accomplished that, becoming a lovely young lady, if she did say so herself. And she sure as hell didn't think that he could miss her gender with her wearing this sort of outfit.
One day, she'd finally catch up to him, and he'd learn what he'd done when he'd made that comment.
When that happened, she wanted to see the look on Ranma Saotome's face, while:
