Nabiki grumbled as she made her way to the phone. It wasn't like she didn't care for the kids, but those two could be real pains at times!
As the phone rang, she considered how much the house had changed over time. The home had, over the years, been extensively rebuilt to accommodate the larger family. Fortunately, the dojo was very popular among those learning the martial arts... not to mention the self-defense classes, or the children's classes that some parents used as an alternative to daycare... And of course, there was renting time at the dojo for other purposes...
The Tendo dojo had essentially become a community center. Not that Nabiki minded. They weren't really rich, but they were far from poor.
The phone was finally answered on the other end. "Hello, Mrs. Tanaka? I just wanted to know how Kimiko and Powder were doing? Oh, that's good. Well, tell them that something's come up, and that I'm on my way to get them. Yeah, I know, they won't like it, but they really should be here. No, we have guests. An old friend of my father's and his kid. Yeah, they might be staying a while. Okay then, I'll see you in a few minutes, Mrs. Tanaka!" Nabiki hung up the phone.
Nabiki put on a jacket, and calling out her good-byes, left to get the twins. Powder and Kimiko Tendo, the ten year old fraternal twins named after the Nabiki's mother and Shampoo's father, were at a friends house at the moment, but it was just down the street.
Nabiki started jogging. She wasn't a martial artist, but keeping in shape was always a good idea. Besides, she wanted to get back as soon as possible... she didn't want to miss anything that went on between their new guest and her little sisters...
