"Gendo," said Lorenz. "We are displeased."
"I rather gathered that," said Gendo Ikari after spitting blood.
"Yet this boy you state who managed to take control of our army," said #6, "does serve a purpose. We will find him, watch him, and ascertain that the soldiers under his command don't do anything... rash."
"He means go on some Frankensteinian rampage," expounded #5. "All this IS highly experimental after all."
"By determining that the units are, in fact, stable, the boy saves us the problem of field testing," continued #6. "So we merely bide our time and make the boy our first target."
"Then we can reaquire the resources he stole," said #5.
"Precisely," said #6.
"Always got to get the last word in, don't you?" asked #5.
"Do not," protested #6.
"Enough," growled Keele Lorenz. "It took more time and money than anyone wants to think about to get to this point. Ikari, I'm still uncertain about your complicity in this. You'll have the chance to make good on it though. Do not fail."
After the various holograms had faded out, Gendo slowly got up and made his way to the exit.
"Okay, maybe I do have to have the last word," muttered #6's voice.
Hours later, Gendo looked over the synth tanks and began to smirk. A twinge from his back stopped him.
He had the data, though damaged, on the Rei Ayanami unit and could make copies from the samples. He had. Now there were thirty Rei units in development.
A few other units would follow, though each of these was flawed as well he could certainly increase their powers into a proper Disciplinary Squad.
"Vengeance will be mine," promised Gendo.
