Kiima was sitting on the Phoenix Throne with her head resting in her right hand. She had never expected or even dreamed about sitting on the Phoenix Throne in her life, but fate seemed to love throwing curve balls at her. After Ranma Saotome’s disastrous visit, a power struggle had occurred in the Phoenix Tribe due to some of the more greedy elders trying to usurp the throne from the now infant Saffron. After the crisis had been averted Kiima had found herself shanghaied into being Saffron’s regent.
For the past 8 months Kiima had been practically flying herself ragged trying to keep the Phoenix Tribe together. It seemed that just as soon as she took care of one brush fire three more would suddenly break out. On top of that Kiima had to make sure that Lord Saffron grew up into a wise leader. The tribe was just too unstable to survive being led by an ambitious or an idiotic ruler at this time.
Now Kiima had to consider a new possible source of trouble for the tribe. Over the past month some of the warriors had started to develop some strange quirks. Those afflected had distanced themselves from everyone else and would only accept being checked out by certain doctors. Also, these warriors tended to disappear when they were not on duty. If Kiima had still just been a captain of the guard she might have dismissed this odd behaviour as simply being stress induced due to the chaotic times that the tribe was going through. However, her function as a regent as well as the numerous intrigues she had dealt with had made her cautious and she was starting to suspect foul play.
These oddities as far as Kiima could tell had started among the perimeter sentries and from there had spread to their friends and other people. What made Kiima even more nervous was the fact she had noticed during the weekly meetings with the high council that two of the council members had started exhibiting sings of being affected as well.
How was she supposed to deal with those who were suddenly acting differently then normal? One thing that Kiima was sure of was that she would need to act cautiously and quietly. Considering the large number of possibly compromised warriors, confronting the situation head on would spell disaster for the tribe.
