"AGHHHH! It's going to eat that poor defenseless girl!" yelled someone who didn't know Akane at all.
"WHO ARE YOU CALLING DEFENSELESS?!" yelled Akane, thrashing around. The problem was that the tentacles were stretchy and rubbery and hard enough to get a good grip but stretchy and bouncy enough that bashing at them wasn't doing a darn thing.
The stretchy tentacle monster dangled the schoolgirl around.
Akane was angry at the monster true. She was getting even MORE angry at the crowd, particularly the ones with the cellphones apparently taking pictures of the whole thing. "ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
"(I must remember this moment for posterity,)" burbled the Thing. "(She's so cuuuuuute!)"
"ARGHHHH!" said Akane as the Thing snaked out another tentacle and apparently took pictures of her TOO! An idle thought compared those pictures of fishermen at the dock with their big catch and found a similarity.
"WIND SCAR!" called out Inuyasha, eliminating another fifty or so monsters.
"Seventeen!" counted off Ranma as he elbow-spiked a creature that had lobster-arms. "Eighteen!" was a crab-octopus kind of thing. "Nineteen!"
"...six," mumbled Kagome, hitting another one with an arrow.
"Hey, that one's on fire! All right!" said a very cheerful Ranma as he led the creature into the pack of others. "Dragon Ascension! All right, that's gotta be another twenty!"
Captain Marvel and Wonder Woman flew up, apparently having recovered enough.
